AlphaNodes helps small and middle sized firms complete projects more efficiently. It implements the same IT standards that are well established in large enterprises such as Bosch, Siemens or BMW - thus filling a gap in IT departments.

"In IT-projects money, time and manpower is being wasted on a day-to-day basis", says AlphaNode's founder and CEO Alexander Meindl. "But up to 90 per cent of all problems can be avoided if a project is properly planned in the first place." The IT expert specialises in Drupal and PHP and has been working with complex IT-systems for 20 years. "Most IT-projects fail because of similar reasons", he explains. Poor communication, unclear or unrealistic goals or a lack of quality management are the main reasons why projects turn out to take longer or get more expensive than scheduled.

This is confirmed by various international studies. Already back in 1998, British scientists identified these fail factors in a landmark study among IT decision makers ( The Bull survey ). "It is nothing new that failure in IT projects seems to be the norm", says Meindl. "What is frustrating though is the fact that this hasn't changed over the last couple of years - even though we now have much better tools and methods." Large enterprises don't start IT projects without implementing professional project management tools and methods, Meindl says. "IT departments in small and medium-sized companies on the other hand often drown in chaos - yet they are the ones who would benefit most from a proper project structure and efficient workflows."

Gap in IT departments
The foundation of AlphaNodes is a logical consequence of my experience working in various projects over the years, Meindl explains. "We want to help companies work more efficiently and avoid the usual and unusual problems." To improve the overall project performance, he structures IT projects from concept to launch and beyond. His team analyses and develops the technical foundations (e.g. deployment), helps identify the right roles, introduces agile software development methods like Scrum or Kaban, establishes transparent workflows in the company or defines escalation mechanisms to secure progress in emergencies.

With this specialisation AlphaNodes fills a gap in IT departments.
"We do not only develop theoretical concepts, but personally help companies to implement the solutions we develop", Meindl emphasises. An independent expert, we often act as negotiator in times of conflict. "When projects reach a critical point, social problems often freeze the whole team and make the situation even worse. We can help solve these conflicts, being objective and independent from the internal hierarchy."

In addition, the software specialist complements internal teams with experience he gained working in different IT projects of all kinds and sizes. This comprehensive perspective often is not available within a company- especially when it comes to first-time ventures. "We know why IT projects fail and help IT managers make the right decisions", Meindl explains. AlphaNodes provides clear options and uses proven methodologies, thus shortening the planning phase and preventing time-consuming discussions or wrong decisions.

Need for modernisation
Structured planning is the backbone of an efficient web project. Large enterprises, such as Siemens, Bosch or BMW therefore rely on professional software management tools and methods. Small and medium sized companies on the contrary still have a great need for structure.

Already in the planning stage, 75 per cent of IT decision makers expect their project to fail, a Geneca study (2010 / 2011, USA) found. 80 per cent of the 600 respondents admit that at least half of their time is consumed with rework that could be avoided or at least minimized with proper planning.

Alexander Meindl knows the reality behind these statistics. "If we are not in a project from the very beginning, the first thing I do is cleaning up", he says. "Most companies don't have a proper deployment concept, there are no automated tests to ensure quality, the staff does not have a transparent way to communicate properly and no one knows what the others are actually working on."

AlphaNodes (alphanodes.de) transfers its experience from working in big projects to smaller teams, thus providing small and medium sized companies with the same quality standards that are long established in large enterprises.
