004 Technologies USA, Inc., the Champaign, Illinois based mobile application development firm announced today the completion of its customizable,“ready out of the box” iPad shop model. Because 004 also created a mobile friendly API the app model can easily be set up to work with any existing ecommerce shop either as a stand-alone app or as a plug-in. The latter option is particularly attractive because it allows companies to monetize usage of an already existing app.
The first live and Apple approved version of the model is available in both the German and Austrian App Stores via the Bild Shop iPad App. The Bild Shop is the iPad component of the German newspaper’s larger ecommerce strategy that is managed by 004’s parent company, 004 Beratungs- und Dienstleistungs GmbH.
The model includes basic structural elements that form the app’s backbone, as well as individual pieces a client can choose to include. Basic structural elements include tree structure category navigation, multi-shop support, promotional teasers and banners, shopping cart, customer checkout, and search functionality. The client can customize their shop’s promotional banners to be consistent with their branding and corporate identification, and select between three different grid layout dimensions.
Other standard features include but are not limited to the display of strike through product pricing, the display of user comments and product reviews, and cross-selling. Notable features in the Bild App include infinitely scrolling sushi bars that provide users immediate access to targeted product categories, and swipeable grid pages that enable easy and intuitive navigation without requiring the user to return to a “home” starting point.
In the short term, the iPad shop model will be offered to 004 Beratungs’ German retail clients. However, in the next two months 004 will also release a similar shop model for the iPhone and begin targeting European and US retailers looking to extend their ecommerce operation to the mobile space.
