Azure Power, India’s first independent power producer of solar energy, was today awarded the US Department of Commerce’s Export Achievement Certificate, at SolarCon, Hyderabad. The award was presented by Mr. Francisco J. Sánchez, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, US Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration.
In presenting the award, Mr. Sanchez said “I am pleased to be recognizing Azure Power today for the 5 MW Rajasthan solar power project. This is a good example of US-India partnership in showcasing deployment of US technology and capital to meet India’s rapidly growing clean energy demand.”
Azure Power is active in several solar policy development forums in the US and India, including the US Department of Commerce Trade Mission this week that is being led by Under Secretary Francisco J. Sanchez.
In accepting the award, Mr. Inderpreet Wadhwa, CEO and Founder, Azure Power, said,“I am privileged to receive the Export Achievement Award as recognition of our efforts to promote sustainable development of clean energy and use of best in class technology for our solar projects in India.” Mr. Wadhwa pointed to the excellent relations Azure Power has with the US Commercial Service and with the Oakland Export Assistance Center and recognized them for their support in the imminent commissioning of his company’s third plant in Rajasthan this December. Azure Power already has solar projects operating in Punjab and Gujarat. Mr. Wadhwa concluded by saying that there is much work that remains to be done in India on the setting up of solar plants and reinforced his commitment to delivering solar as a service to the masses in India.
The Export Achievement Certificate (EAC) was created in 2001 by the US Department of Commerce to recognize small and medium-sized enterprises that have successfully entered the international marketplace for the first time or have successfully entered a new market.
