The automation solution, supplied to Essar Power Gujarat Ltd, has been produced to control the common header of circulating water pumps for Salaya 1.
Demonstrating an ability to provide tailored systems, the bespoke design for the 2x600MW plant combines AUMA’s electric multi-turn actuator, integral actuator controls and worm gearbox with a 3.6m Butterfly Valve from KBL.
AUMA’s modular actuator design supports the need for flexible operation at the thermal power plant and a requirement for durability was addressed with KBL’s ebonite lined Butterfly Valve.
With over 40 years providing actuation systems for the power industry, AUMA has an established track record supporting electricity generation. Previous installations include actuators supplied to units six and seven of the Kota Super Thermal Power Station, Rajasthan’s first major coal-fired power plant.
The Salaya scheme confirms AUMA’s capability supporting large scale valve technology.
Growth for AUMA has included introduction of the new Generation .2 multi-turn actuator range SA 07.2 – 16.2 and new actuator controls AC 01.2 Designed to cater for existing market needs, and next generation requirements, capabilities include the integration of field devices into Asset Management Systems. AUMA has introduced a number of enhanced features and expanded the functionality of its range, while retaining proven design principles.
The new Generation .2 devices, both actuators and controls, are fully compatible with AUMA’s previous products. Mechanical enhancements improve positioning accuracy, the output speed range of modulating actuators and the extension of the expected actuator lifetime. These advancements are backed by improved corrosion protection.
One focus of development was to improve device handling. As a result, the handwheel is now activated with one hand by simply pressing a button; valve connection is more flexible and a newly designed electrical connection facilitates the linking of cables with large cross sections. Operation is made easier by a new, enlarged and illuminated graphic display. The display texts are shown in plain text, available in a wide range of languages. Graphic display features are provided e.g. torque curves. Operation, setting, diagnostics and the memorisation of all actuator data is facilitated wirelessly via the AUMA PC ToolSuite.
