At last week’s annual meeting of the Centricity* Perinatal Users’ Group National Conference, GE Healthcare announced Frederick Memorial Hospital (Frederick, Md.) and Northeast Georgia Medical Center (Gainesville, Ga.) as the winners of its “2011 Leaders of Change Awards.” The awards recognize customers using GE’s Centricity Perinatal system to help improve workflow across their perinatal continuum as well as drive seamless interoperability throughout their hospitals’ EMR systems.

Donna Ray RN, System Analyst from Frederick Memorial received recognition for Outstanding System Manager of the Year. Donna has spearheaded changes within her department, improving communication across perinatal care areas and among clinicians. Today, the hospital delivers care across 300 beds with 2,400 annual deliveries. In order to optimize and drive interoperability, Donna has been an integral part in implementing interfaces between Centricity Perinatal and the hospital’s non-GE EMR. This interoperability enables these systems to work together, assuring transparency of communication between providers.

“Centricity Perinatal helps communicate pertinent data between the mother and baby areas of our hospital,” said Ray. “The staff appreciates the ease of finding charts, being able to quickly review lab results and what has occurred throughout the family’s visit.”

Candace Hollifield RNC-OB, BSN CPN System Administrator and Cindy Sullivan MSN, RN-BC CPN System Administrator from Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) received recognition for outstanding Centricity Perinatal Champions. NGMC, with 557 beds and 3,600 deliveries annually, serves 700,000 people across 13 counties. The staff has rallied support throughout the perinatal department, championing change. By using Centricity Perinatal, staff are now providing a collaborative focus on the full spectrum of care throughout their perinatal environment.

“Centricity Perinatal has provided us with the tools that we need to relate information across disciplines and departments quickly and efficiently,” said Hollifield.

“Interoperability is an important feature of Centricity Perinatal that streamlines care,” added Sullivan.

“Customer innovation drives everything we do at GE Healthcare IT,” said Jim Corrigan, Senior Vice President and General Manager. “These customers work alongside us, just as they work within their own departments, to enhance care delivery.”

Centricity Perinatal is GE Healthcare's electronic clinical information system designed to support the specialized needs of mothers and infant’s throughout Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, the Nursery, and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
