Entry to the UK featured on BBC London Radio speaking with Vanessa Feltz about immigration.

The interview, which lasted 15 minutes, focused on the topic of David Cameron’s latest statement: “Immigrants need to make a big contribution on society and not be a burden on the tax payer”.

A live female caller agreed with the topic discussion, stating that immigration was a bad thing. Ben Chrystie, who represented Entry to the UK, saw both sides of the argument, saying that the UK was an attractive spot for foreign nationals because of its benefit system.

He went on to talk about the positives of immigration, highlighting the volume of foreign medical practitioners that have entered the UK to work for organisations like the NHS.

The caller then told the show that immigrants are taking jobs from UK nationals. Ben understood her concerns but described why employers are recruiting from abroad:

1) A lack of British nationals applying for the job roles advertised;
2) Fewer qualified British nationals to fulfil current job vacancies.

Ben concluded that it is much harder to obtain a UK visa now then it was 10-20 years ago, due to tougher requirements and recent price cuts.

The show, broadcasted live on the 10th October 2011, is now available on BBC iPlayer at bbc.co.uk/.

Entry to the UK (entrytotheuk.co.uk) has a strong partnership with the BBC, featuring on several of their radio shows in the past, including regular appearances on Three Counties radio.
