Featuring the Release of the 2011 Clean Energy Jobs Report, Updates on the Duke Energy/Progress Energy Merger, NC Success Stories and Educational Sessions

North Carolina’s leading clean energy conference is just around the corner – space is limited so attendees are encouraged to register today! The NC Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA) will hold its annual “Making Energy Work” conference on Wednesday, November 9th at the Raleigh Convention Center. The conference is well-known for delivering unparalleled educational content, stimulating discussions and debates, and great networking opportunities for a wide range of attendees including the “novice” to energy industry experts to policymakers – everyone involved with our rapidly-developing clean energy economy. For more information on the agenda and to register, please visit: energync.org/annualmeeting2011.

This year’s conference theme is "Celebrating North Carolina's Success in the Clean Energy Economy," which will highlight the successful innovation, financing strategies, and partnerships that have created our state’s thriving clean energy economy. The day-long event will feature educational sessions, NCSEA’s annual Membership Meeting, a networking reception, Sponsor exhibits, and “technologies on display” such as the hottest new electric vehicles.

The “Making Energy Work” conference is expected to bring together close to 500 attendees including energy business leaders and employees, economic developers, elected officials and government staff, educators, service sectors such as legal and finance, utilities, regulators, non-profits, advocates, and the general public.

“If you want to know what’s happening with North Carolina’s clean energy economy, job and business opportunities, policy developments, and the latest technology innovations, then this is a conference you cannot afford to miss,” said Ivan Urlaub, Executive Director of the NC Sustainable Energy Association. “We’ve put together a great agenda of leading experts from across North Carolina, the Southeast and around the country – attendees just need to register and get ready to learn, share and network.”

With energy becoming more and more tied to economic recovery and job creation opportunities for our state, attending this year's conference will give attendees insight into strategic opportunities unfolding in North Carolina. A wide range of energy topics will be discussed including renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency solutions, smart grid, high performance building, electric vehicles and the proposed merger of Duke Energy and Progress Energy.

Several noteworthy highlights of this year’s conference include:

• The release of the 2011 North Carolina Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Industries Census – the only comprehensive source for data on the jobs and businesses associated with our state’s clean energy economy (and the only such longitudinal or multi-year analysis in the nation). The 2010 Industries Census identified 12,500 (full-time equivalent) clean energy jobs in NC, which was a 22% increase from the previous year and a remarkable number during the recent recession. • Plenary Session featuring updates and discussion of state and federal clean energy policies and the proposed merger of Duke Energy and Progress Energy – speakers will include: NCSEA’s Ivan Urlaub, Duke Energy’s Brett Carter, NC Sen. Josh Stein, Clean Energy Economy’s Tim Greeff, Strata Solar’s John Morrison, and others.

• Six “Break-Out” Sessions on topics such as “Clean Energy 101,” financing trends, the latest innovations and advancements with renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency solutions, useful online tools and resources, and more.

Whether you are new to the clean energy economy or a seasoned business owner, Making Energy Work 2011 holds information and networking opportunities you cannot afford to miss. Space is limited, so register today at energync.org/.
