NewswireToday - /newswire/ - London, United Kingdom, 10/07/2011 - The British Academy is strengthening its relationship with Wiley-Blackwell, the scientific, technical, medical, and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons Inc. with the creation of a major new prize for an outstanding contribution to economics.

The new British Academy-Wiley Prize in Economics, worth Ł5,000, will be awarded annuallyin recognition of excellence in economics, including economic history, by an early career researcher. The first prize will be made in 2012, with a call for nominations in autumn 2011.

Announcing the new initiative at the British Academy’s annual Medals and Prizes ceremony on 6 October, the Academy’s President, Sir Adam Roberts, said,

"I am delighted that our partnership with Wiley-Blackwell continues to grow with the launch of this new prize in economics. The British Academy is keen to support researchers early in their careers and pleased that the British Academy-Wiley Prize in Economics affords another opportunity for us to do so.”
