Greenwich, CT, United States, 10/25/2006 - As his opponents dwindle in number, Maymin's candidacy continues in full strength. This weekend, the Green Party candidate withdrew his ballot status to endorse the Democratic Party candidate.

Both the Democratic Party candidate, Diane Farrell, 51, and the Republican Party candidate, incumbent Christopher Shays, 61, are facing calls to step down and withdraw from the race for their failure to provide any Constitutional authorization for their scheme to infringe on the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
At a meeting with students at the University of Connecticut's Stamford campus, Maymin again called for both Shays and Farrell to step down. In last Wednesday's debate in Wilton High School sponsored by several local Leagues of Women Voters, during a discussion of gun control, Maymin challenged each of Shays and Farrell to provide any Constitutional authorization for their claim that they were allowed to regulate gun ownership. Neither was able to reply at the time, nor have they been able to reply at any point since then.
There has been a deafening silence coming from both camps. No comments have been posted on either web site. No press releases were made.
"It's like they know there is no Constitutional authorization," said Maymin. "That makes it even worse than if they were merely ignorant and changed positions. If in fact there is no Constitutional authority, which appears to be the case based on a natural reading and supported by recent court decisions, and they know it, then this may be tantamount to intentional fraud."
Shays and Farrell have already changed positions several times in response to Maymin. In an earlier debate, Shays claimed Abu Ghraib was not torture. Maymin immediately stood up and vehemently disagreed, saying it was indeed torture. Farrell said nothing.
The next day, Farrell issued press releases about how terrible Shays's assertion was. When asked why she didn't say anything at the debate, she said she had been "thinking and formulating" her own answer to the question. Yet at last Wednesday's debate in Wilton, she changed her story, saying that she had in fact not said anything at the debate because Maymin had done such an excellent and eloquent job. In addition to Farrell changing her position a day after Maymin called Abu Ghraib torture, Shays also came around to Maymin's position a few days later.
Earlier in the campaign, Maymin (mayminforcongress.com) was the first and is still the only candidate to call for a specific deadline for withdrawing from Iraq. Three days after issuing his position paper on the subject and emailing it to both Shays and Farrell with a debate challenger, Shays announced he was considering a timeline for withdrawal.
"When Shays and Farrell withdraw from the race, they will have to consider who to endorse," said Maymin. "I do not mind if they endorse me. It is a free country and as a Libertarian, I believe people should be able to endorse whoever they want, so long as the candidate they are endorsing will in fact uphold the Constitution. I am the only candidate in the race to meet that requirement."
