NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, has worked with Garmin France, the global leader in satellite navigation, to produce three exclusive PND bundles which Renault is now offering to its customers.
“We were looking for a simple and flexible way to introduce a portable navigation option to our accessories portfolio for those vehicles not featuring factory fitted systems as standard,” explained Jean-Philippe Roubes, Accessories Chief Department, Renault France. “Garmin, expert in navigation solutions, is a respected brand and, together with NAVTEQ, offers the range of superior quality content and services we require - bringing higher value to both the Renault dealerships and our customers. NAVTEQ’s knowledge of both the automotive and portable businesses was also invaluable in the collaboration with Garmin, enabling the project to be completed very quickly and efficiently.”
The three Garmin bundles include premium features such as text to speech, safety camera data and speed information plus a leather carry case. The nüvi 1240 option also includes the nüMaps Guarantee™ which makes sure drivers can have the latest NAVTEQ maps for their new systems. Both the nüvi 1390T and nüvi 1490T packages come with a subscription to nüMaps Lifetime™ which provides map updates for the life of the system. Additional content and services include the PhotoRealTM technology for roadmap display, the nüRouteTM technology for itinerary optimization depending on time of day and memo-parking for easy localization of vehicle.
“NAVTEQ’s broad knowledge of maps and navigation as well as existing relationships with both Garmin and Renault were crucial to the speed of this deal,” added Eric Bernard, General Manager, Garmin France. “Intense collaboration from all sides enabled us to develop unique product bundles for Renault and bring them to customers within three months - an almost unheard of timeframe.”
“Equally important are the promotional activities NAVTEQ developed with Garmin to support the launch at Renault dealerships” commented Eric Fumat, Vice President, Channel Sales Development EMEA, NAVTEQ. “Thanks to our past experience and relationship with Garmin we were able to quickly define which products were most appropriate for different models or trim levels and to determine the advantages of launching special or limited editions. We then applied this to the promotional campaign and identified the key product selection criteria which would help drivers make informed choices when in Renault dealerships.”
Having initially launched the offer in France, Renault is planning to roll out into Europe later this year.
