PharmaJet’s needle-free injection systems are being implemented as an option in the flu shot campaign at Kroger Pharmacies. Kroger Inc. (NYSE: KR) is offering easy and affordable needle-free flu vaccinations to protect against seasonal flu viruses at over 800 of their pharmacy locations nationwide and 79 of The Little Clinic locations in select stores.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends an annual flu vaccination for all people age 6 months and older. Flu shots have proven to reduce illness, absenteeism and flu-related medical expenses. For many people, the fear of needles is enough to deter receiving a seasonal flu shot, despite the risk of contracting and spreading the illness. This season, Kroger is offering the needle-free delivery option at many of the Kroger, Frys, King Soopers and The Little Clinic pharmacies.

“Needle-free flu shots are as effective as traditional needle delivered shots and provide a sense of ease to those who might not otherwise receive the vaccine because of the needle,” said Dr. Ken Patric, chief medical officer of Kroger’s The Little Clinic.

Needle-free technology, which has been used in the U.S. and other countries to deliver millions of vaccinations, uses a spring-operated injector to deliver the vaccine through the skin by means of a narrow, high-velocity fluid jet. PharmaJet injections are delivered in 1/5th of a second and with minimal pain sensation. The Little Clinic offered the needle-free option in select clinics last year with positive patient feedback, especially from parents whose children are fearful of traditional needle shots.

“PharmaJet’s needle-free injectors have received FDA marketing clearance for use with liquid medicines and vaccines and are available throughout the United States,” said James A. Bowman, President of PharmaJet. “We are pleased to join forces with Kroger to provide advanced technology and enhanced customer experience at the Kroger locations.”

"Health experts recommend a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step to protect against seasonal flu viruses," Kroger VP pharmacy Lincoln Lutz said. "Kroger's family of stores offer a variety of options to our customers, including needle-free flu vaccinations available in many locations and a customized Workplace Flu program to help companies provide for their employees.” Further information about Kroger’s flu vaccine can be found at kroger.com/pharmacy.

About PharmaJet Inc. and Needle-free Injection Technology

PharmaJet’s needle-free injection technology (pharmajet.com) delivers drugs and vaccines to intramuscular, subcutaneous and intradermal tissue depths. PharmaJet injectors use pressure to create a fine stream of liquid that penetrates the skin, delivering doses to the desired depth, while eliminating needle-stick risk and the burden of sharps waste management. Further benefits of PharmaJet injectors include the potential for dose-sparing of vaccines, reducing the overall cost of vaccine delivery. The PharmaJet system has been well received in the developed world, and is also extremely advantageous in the developing world due to its usability, affordability and inherent safety features.
