The Finmeccanica booth (#703) will highlight innovative technology and platform programs from the Finmeccanica Group companies AgustaWestland and Alenia North America.

The booth will feature an AgustaWestland AW139M full-scale production helicopter, as well as Alenia North America’s T-100 Integrated Training System Simulator. Alenia North America will also showcase its C-27J and G-222 programs.

AgustaWestland’s AW139M helicopter is the advanced military version of the multi-role, off-the-shelf AW139 medium-twin helicopter integrated with proven U.S. military technology for the U.S. Air Force’s Common Vertical Lift Support Platform (CVLSP). Manufactured at the company’s Philadelphia, Pa. facility and tailored with U.S. military technology from suppliers across the nation, the AW139M includes a high-definition FLIR, self protection equipment including infrared detection and countermeasures, avionics and heavy duty landing gear. For military missions, the AW139M features a low thermal and acoustic signature and is available with a full ice protection system, allowing for all-weather operations at the U.S. Air Force’s northern-tier missile bases. The AW139M aircraft will be on static display and is the first aircraft to be showcased at the AFA Exposition.

Alenia North America’s T-100 Integrated Training System (ITS) is the most advanced and comprehensive 4th and 5th generation flying training system in the world today. It builds upon the proven technology, systems and international success of Alenia Aermacchi’s M-346, and utilizes a fully developed and mature ground based training system. Incorporating state-of-the-art U.S. technology, the T-100 ITS is the ideal system to replace the U.S. Air Force’s current fleet of aging T-38 Advanced Jet Trainers.

The T-100 simulator on display at the exhibit includes an interoperability network demonstrator that links the advanced T-100 engineering flight training cockpit simulator to a desktop trainer simulator so that two pilots can perform formation flying and joint maneuvers. The demonstration also includes the VSI TARGO Helmet Mounted Display currently flown in the Italian Air Force’s T-346A (U.S. T-100).
Alenia North America will also feature the C-27J Spartan. The C-27J is the perfect fixed-wing, multipurpose cargo aircraft for today’s diverse missions, and is also the most cost-effective U.S. tactical military airlifter for this budget constrained environment. To date, 10 aircraft have been delivered to the U.S. Air Force, two of which are currently deployed to Afghanistan. Alenia North America also anticipates future C-27J mission roles with the Air National Guard. The C-27J is a perfect fit for the Air National Guard’s state and federal roles.

Finally, Alenia North America will showcase the G-222, a multi-mission medium transport aircraft that can be configured in flight to perform a variety of airlift missions. The G-222 is known for its robust, rugged military design and its ability to operate in austere conditions and land on short and unprepared landing strips. To date, 14 G-222 aircraft have been delivered to the U.S. Air Force for the Afghanistan Air Force (AAF) to assist in developing the AAF’s sovereign airlift capability.
