Rovi Corporation today announced that Deezer, a premier music streaming service, has signed an agreement to use Rovi Music to power the launch of its recently announced service in the UK. In addition to a team of music experts behind Deezer’s service, Rovi Music will be available to help provide information on 13 million licensed tracks, helping fans discover new music and old favorites.
“We’ve launched a powerful service where subscribers can listen to millions of tracks as many times as they like,” said Mark Foster, managing director of Deezer UK. “By working with Rovi, we’ve strengthened our service with high quality music data, creating a great experience for our users.”
Deezer, available now at deezer.com or m.deezer.com on a mobile's web browser, uses Rovi entertainment metadata for bios, reviews, artist to artist and album to album links. The service can be used on PC/Mac, mobile phones, smart phones, tablets, and IP TVs & IP Sound Systems.
“Deezer’s availability on a variety of platforms offers broad access to an extensive catalog of music,” said Simon Adams, SVP of data sales for Rovi. “We’re excited to be able to provide the underlying data that will help Deezer expand its offer into countries like the UK, providing users with a great choice for a streaming based music service.”
Rovi entertainment metadata is an extensive database of standardized information about music, movies, games, books and television that support a variety of popular websites, social networks, mobile and PC based apps and consumer electronics devices. It helps consumers navigate entertainment content, creates visually rich experiences and fuels continuous discovery which increases consumption and sales. Rovi Music covers more than 3 million album releases and 29 million music tracks – from popular hits and cult favorites to minor works and classical masterpieces.
Created by Daniel Marhely in August 2007, Deezer already boasts 20 million users, 6 million unique visitors per month, more than 1.2 million premium subscribers, almost 400,000 Facebook fans and 145,000 Twitter followers in France alone. It is now available in English, is being developed in other languages and last year won the prestigious ‘best music mobile service’ at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
