Due to criminal incidents recorded in various states of the country, federal agencies are now tightening up the online dating security measures. These new laws would make criminal background checks mandatory for those who are looking for dating or matchmaking services online.

Though law is not enforced widely in all states, New York is the first state, which has law regulating online dating and matchmaking sites. Other states California, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia and Texas have either introduced criminal background checks laws or they are in pipeline. On the other hands, some states prefer online dating services must alert their members for profiles which have not yet completed criminal background checks.
