Singapore, Singapore, 2011/09/12 - The Tourism Authority of Thailand has reported that tourism from Europeans and Indians to Phuket is a rapidly growing market. This has fueled the introduction of more direct flights into Phuket and a positive outlook for the hotel industry.
With an upward trend expected for the Thailand tourism industry in 2012, more airlines are launching new direct flights to Thailand. Phuket, a popular holiday destination in Thailand, has seen a significant increase in tourist arrivals this year. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has reported that the number of tourist arrivals to Phuket will continue to rise next year.
Reports have shown that Europe and India are strong growth visitor markets for Phuket. To cope with the increase in tourist arrivals from these regions, more direct flights to Phuket are being introduced. Kingfisher Airlines, the Indian domestic carrier, is reported to be planning to launch new regular flights from New Delhi and Mumbai to Phuket in November this year. Also, charter flights from Warsaw, Poland to Phuket are also expected to begin service next year.
“These new routes indicate the increasing popularity of Phuket among the European and Indian tourists,” commented Chris Comer, CEO of Castlewood Group, a commercial real estate developer based in Singapore. “With the growing number of tourist arrivals, a positive outlook can be expected for the hotel industry in Phuket,” he added.
Phuket’s top five tourism source markets so far for 2011 are in order; China, Russia, Australia, South Korea and Sweden. South Korea having rose 30% in the first quarter of 2011 and Chinese taking over from Australia for the first time since 2005.
As the tourist numbers rise, passenger traffic to Phuket International Airport is predicted to hit almost 8 million by the end of 2011, Phuket being Thailand’s second busiest airport. The expansion plans for Phuket’s increasingly stretched to capacity airport are most certainly welcome. The US164 million plans to double the handling capacity of the airport are expected to commence in 2012 and will be finished by the end of 2014.
The 8over8 hotel, a project by Castlewood Group, will be situated in Phuket, near the beautiful Bang Tao Beach and Laguna Resort. It is scheduled for completion by the end of 2012.
