The agency will design and build entirely new global e-commerce sites for the company with the first roll-outs expected by the end of the year.
Ben Sherman is one of the best-established clothing brands in Britain. Originally launched in Brighton by Arthur Benjamin Sugarman in the Sixties, the clothes often featured the Royal Air Force roundel and they gained a cult following with fashion-conscious mods of the era. The company’s fortunes were revived in 2004 when Oxford Industries purchased it and, last year, a Ben Sherman store opened in Savile Row in Mayfair, London.
George Crabb, MD of the OTHER media (othermedia.com), said: “We are very pleased to be working with Ben Sherman. The company told us it was not happy with its old site and this was actually turned off earlier this year. We were approached after they had been looking for a new digital partner for some time and, having been recommended by several parties, we won the work in a competitive pitch based on our proven approach and design credentials.
“We are now designing and building for Ben Sherman new ecommerce sites for the UK and Europe, that should launch in Q4 this year, and a site for the USA due to launch Q1 next year. Ben Sherman is also rebranding the business and the new sites will all reflect this updating of the valued brand.”
Pan Philippou, CEO of Ben Sherman, said: “We were impressed with the pitch and ideas presented by the team from the OTHER media which clearly understood what we demanded from a new digital partner. We look forward to a fruitful and enduring working relationship with the agency. Ben Sherman is a strong brand and we felt it was time it had a suitably strong presence online”
Ben Sherman is the latest big-name fashion retailer to sign with the OTHER media, which already works with a number of the country’s best-known designers. One of its longest partnerships is with Paul Smith and the OTHER media (othermedia.com) also works with Jasper Conran. It is teamed, too, with The Rug Company, which sells bespoke rugs from some of the world’s biggest designers, including Vivienne Westwood and Diane von Furstenberg.
“Fashion & Retail has emerged as one of the main pillars of our business,” added George Crabb. “In such tough times none of the fashion houses can ignore the significance of a good online presence. We have tailored our projects with fashion partners accordingly. Some require a major rethink of their websites while others see that they must embrace e-commerce opportunities more efficiently.”
Having forged its reputation on outstanding quality in the digital arena, as well as Fashion & Retail the OTHER media is also a specialist in three other areas of digital expertise: Museums & Galleries, Charities & Institutions and Sports Organisations. Amongst the agency’s many respected clients are BAFTA, BBC Worldwide, the England and Wales Cricket Board, the Football League, the Rugby Football Union, The Rug Company and the V&A museum.
Fully independent, the OTHER media, has a team of more than 40 expert developers, programmers and designers. The company’s reputation is built on often-complex digital projects ranging from maximising web activity to tailor-made apps for the mobile market. Founded in 1994, the OTHER media is based at London Bridge and is now seen as a cornerstone of the UK’s digital establishment. The three original directors of the company – Jonathan Briggs, George Crabb and Nicholas Oates - are still at the helm, steering its ongoing success 17 years later.
Neil Lee has joined the OTHER media as Head of Production. Neil, who formerly worked with Tribal DDB, Barclays Capital and OgilvyAction, will oversee the company’s many projects.
“I am genuinely excited to be applying my knowledge and skills at a forward-thinking agency with a client list to die for,” he said today. “For me it is important to be at a company that has mobile at the heart of its expertise in website design, digital and technical strategy.”
