With water being such a huge part of the global industrial process it is important that industrial processes are kept safe and efficient as not only is it every industries duty to return water clean and treated back to the environment but improperly treated processes can also cause break downs and plant failures, Feedwater explain what is on offer to aid with water treatment systems. One of the more common plant processes in large industry is the operation of a steam boiler, because it is their sole purpose to produce steam from water it is important that the pipework is kept in check to make sure there is no serious wear as water heated for steam expands over 1000 times and travels at speeds in excess of 100 km an hour, you can imagine the damage and harm caused should a pipe burst. Feedwater produce a multitude of Boiler water treatment chemicals for this particular issue which include its range of FDA approved Corroban products based on sodium sulphite which acts as an oxygen scavengers to control corrosion in the feed tank and condensate return lines. Should there be a requirement for sulfite free treatment Feedwater also produce a range of Tannin products ideal for low pressure boiler applications such as steam engines and locomotives, Amine products are also a clever boiler water treatment chemical as they work to neutralise acidity and create a protective film around the pipework helping to control corrosion.

As important as it is to ensure safety in controlling corrosion in the boiler that is not the only issue which needs to be treated, steam boilers are almost certainly likely to suffer from scale, this is the formation of insoluble salts at high temperatures, these create a rock like coating within the boiler tubes which cause a severe reduction in the transfer of heat so not only is this going to reduce the efficiency of the boiler but it can cause the overheating of the pipework which will more than likely rupture damaging the boiler and possibly harming workers. Scale is treatable with a good water treatment service such as the use of an Alkalinity builder, Feedwater’s Alkbuild is an FDA approved product for the correction of boiler water chemistry, correcting the pH helps to protect the hot well and feed line from scale and corrosion. Sludge is the last major issue with steam boilers as over time dissolved solids from minerals and chemicals in the water build up as they are left behind as the water is turned into steam they begin to concentrate which can lead to foaming and carryover. Untreated this can lead to contaminations further down the line. Sludge conditioning can be easily performed by using a polymer such as Feedwater’s range of Polyshield water treatment products, this can help to create a mobile sludge which can easily be removed during a boiler blowdown.

Feedwater (feedwater.co.uk) has been a leading expert in water treatments for over 35 years and had been leading the fight in the prevention of legionnaires disease before its wider public acknowledgement, Feedwater supply a range of water treatment services such as boiler water and cooling tower treatments and Chlorine dioxide dosing systems. The company own a number of patents for their unique and highly effective chemical products which allows them to provide often superior services to their many clientele. To find out more about how water treatment can improve efficiency on your industrial or commercial sites you can contact Feedwater for discussion and onsite inspection to find out exactly how they can improve performance, extend the life span of your site and reduce the risk catastrophic failure.
