Metso will deliver a metal shredder plant to the Russian Vyksa Steel Works, part of United Metallurgical Company (OMK). The order is the largest ever for Metso’s metal shredding technology from Russia. The delivery of the Metso plant to Vyksa Steel Works will be completed in the second quarter of 2012. The value of the order has not been disclosed.
The metal shredder plant will process clean and dense shredded ferrous scrap from all kinds of miscellaneous scrap and car bodies. The shredder plant also includes a ferrous and non-ferrous processing line with an annual capacity of up to one million metric tons.
“When choosing the supplier, of course the world leading position of Metso was taken into consideration. In its 90 years’ history of recycling machinery Metso has implemented dozens of similar projects in the world, ’’ says Oleg Fedotov, head of project from United Metallurgical Company (OMK).
The shredder plant is a 7,500-kilowatt Metso Shredder Plant, ZZ 300 x 300. Metso's technology enables Vyksa Steel Works to produce high quality, pure raw material for manufacturing its steel products.
Producing steel from clean shredded scrap instead of iron ore can save more than 70 percent of the energy needed for the steelmaking process. Also using clean shredded scrap in steelmaking reduces pollutants to the environment by 86 percent. Scrap metal shredding, separation and purification for reuse is an important way of saving natural resources.
Metso is a leading technology supplier of equipment for metal shredding technology. Around 30% of the world’s metal scrap processing capacity equipment has been supplied by Metso and annually over 150 million tons of metal scrap is processed through Metso equipment. The order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s 2011 second quarter orders received.
Vyksa Steel Works is one of Russia's oldest metallurgical centers. The company was established in 1757 and became part of OMK in 1999. Today it is one of the most technically equipped and modernized steel works in the Russian Federation and a leader in Russia’s pipe and railroad wheel market. The potential pipe production capacity of Vyksa Steel Works is over 2 million tons of pipes per year.
