For a third consecutive year, PPG Industries assisted with the Auto Body Painting Contest, one of four major events in the National Automotive Application and Repair Skill Competition that took place recently in Tianjin, China. Hosted jointly by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Communications and the Tianjin Municipal Government, the event attracted 413 secondary vocational school students majoring in automotive application and repair skill from all over the country.
“Since working with this competition for the first time in 2009, PPG has been glad to see more students participating,” said Ms. Pauline Yuen, PPG vice president, refinish coatings and light industrial coatings, Asia, and architectural coatings, China. “We are committed to introducing more advanced facilities and technologies in future competitions that will help cultivate more talent in the Chinese automotive painting industry.”
In 2004, PPG kicked off its first school-enterprise cooperative program in China, and the company maintains relationships with all schools involved. Early in 2011, PPG entered into a school-enterprise cooperative agreement with the Ministry of Education in Beijing, kicking off the first vocational education program for automotive painting in China. Ms. Yuen said the goal of PPG’s involvement with these programs is to share state-of-the-art technologies and training systems with professionals in the fast-growing Chinese automotive repair industry.
