When all was said and done on September 23, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Shepherd Center added about $320,000 to their coffers, and a ticket buyer from Maryland owned a new, furnished abode in Lawrenceville. The funds were raised through the Bowen Family Homes Healing House raffle.
“Our winner was thrilled with the return on his $100 investment, to put it mildly,” said Mike Phelps, one of the owners of Bowen Family Homes. “He has not yet decided what he will do with the home.”
Bowen Family Homes sold 3,225 tickets for a total of $322,500 to be shared equally by the two Atlanta healthcare providers. The winner purchased two tickets at $100 each.
Shepherd Center and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta were pleased to receive the funds raised through the Healing House raffle. "The generous donation from all who participated in the Bowen Family Homes Healing House raffle will go toward construction costs of our new Family Residence Center," said Dean Melcher, Director of Annual Giving for Shepherd Center. "This new Center will allow us to house the family members of patients who live outside of metropolitan Atlanta and support comprehensive treatment that allows patients to look to a future filled with hope, dignity and independence."
Denise Barnes, Director of Annual Events for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, commented, “As a not-for-profit organization, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta relies on philanthropic and volunteer support to help provide high quality care to Georgia's children. We are so fortunate to have Bowen Family Homes support us in this effort.”
“We offer our thanks to everyone who supported Shepherd Center and Children’s Healthcare by participating in the raffle,” said Phelps. “We also extend appreciation to the many partners who donated time, materials and funds to the home’s construction.”
Participating partners included E&E Electrical Contractors, Inc., Ideal Development Concepts, Robert Bowden, Inc., Pioneer Lighting, Zimmerman Painting, Village Construction, Inc., RCS, Inc., Garner Plumbing, Case Lumber, Level Creek Grading, Voyles Overhead Doors, Stock Supply, Georgia Stone, Georgia Floors, Green Enterprises, Stuart Mechanical Services, Mill Creek Concrete and Total Comfort Insulation.
