PortAuthority Technologies, Inc.,™ the leader in Information Leak Prevention (ILP), and Safend, an international leader in endpoint security, today announced a partnership to expand content-aware, policy-based data protection beyond the gateway to desktops and endpoints. The companies also announced Safend’s inclusion in the growing PortAuthority DATASEC Alliance™, which fosters interoperability with complementary technologies to jointly deliver the most comprehensive data protection and compliance solutions.

Despite heightened awareness, serious data breaches continue to occur due to poor endpoint control, resulting in the loss of private customer data and other confidential information. Whether unintentional, intentional or malicious in nature, the ramifications of these incidents are proving significant. Until today, endpoint security solutions lacked the functionality to fully identify sensitive content resting on desktops and laptops. Current solutions also lack the capability to protect confidential data from unauthorized distribution. This partnership joins the leading content-aware, policy-based data leak protection with innovative endpoint security technology for the industry’s most comprehensive endpoint ILP solution.

“Today’s endpoint security products provide limited protection against confidential data leakage because they are not content aware, and can be bypassed by simple maneuvers, such as changing the file name or file type,” said Brian Burke, research manager of security products at IDC. “The joint solution brought to the market today by PortAuthority and Safend serves a critical need for organizations that was previously unmet. Now, organizations can protect their information on endpoints from unauthorized distribution or duplication based on actual file contents according to their predefined policies.”

Leveraging this joint solution, organizations can prevent the unauthorized dissemination of sensitive data over virtually all network and endpoint communication channels. PortAuthority’s PreciseID™ technology provides the most accurate and precise solution to monitor and prevent information leaks of internal and external network channels, including MS-Exchange, network printing, SMTP/ESMTP, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP and IM. Based on patent-pending Digital Membrane™ technology, Safend Protector controls data access from the physical and wireless ports of all enterprise endpoints, including USB, FireWire, WiFi, Bluetooth, Infrared (IrDA), and CD/DVDs as well as portable media players and U3 drives.

“PortAuthority provides the most accurate and precise solution to monitor and prevent information leaks of internal and external network communication, and we are pleased to partner with them and bring this unique, automated solution to market,” said Safend’s CEO Gil Sever. “Now organizations can be assured that they have the appropriate resources available to identify sensitive data throughout their network and can extend content-aware policy enforcement to endpoints.”

“Today’s announcement marks the important union of two best-of-breed data protection technologies,” said PortAuthority Technologies President and CEO Pete Foley. “Safend delivers the leading intuitive endpoint monitoring and blocking system that protects all local, wireless, and physical communications ports, including USBs. Together, we have all communication channels and ports covered with our comprehensive joint solution for protecting confidential information and IP.”

The award-winning Safend Protector 3.0 delivers complete visibility and granular control over all enterprise endpoints. Safend’s security solutions protect organizations from information leakage, malicious attacks and penetration, while offering auditing capabilities over the physical and wireless ports of enterprise PCs and laptops. Safend Protector 3.0 additionally features protection from hardware keylogger devices, providing endpoint immunization from password and identity theft.

PortAuthority Technologies’ growing customer base has confidence that their internal data is secure, both for privacy, regulatory compliance and intellectual property concerns. Unlike other industry solutions, PortAuthority Technologies’ advanced algorithms use granular data matching techniques that are resilient to data manipulation. Studies and industry feedback confirm that its PreciseID™ technology delivers the industry’s highest accuracy with the lowest false positives and false negatives. Organizations easily integrate PortAuthority Technologies’ appliance with their existing solutions to preserve their investment, while gaining best-of-breed information leak prevention to ensure regulatory compliance.

Availability
The joint PortAuthority-Safend solution is available today from the companies and their respective channels. An integrated content-aware endpoint ILP solution is planned for availability by the end of 2006.
