Six Thai students, aged between 15 and17 years, have won United Airlines’ round-trip tickets from Bangkok to the U.S. worth more than THB740,000.
The six quiz winners, who beat thousands of Mattayom 1-6 students, flew on October 9 on flight UA852 from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport to New York escorted by four representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Thailand. During their 10-day study trip that will take them to New York, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, the winners will have the opportunity to visit the White House, world class museums, the United Nations, American high schools and universities plus many other visitor attractions.
“United is very proud to be part of this great U.S. academic and community program. United hopes this 10-day study tour will offer a unique learning opportunity for these very smart Thai students and we wish them all an enjoyable trip,” said Mr. Eric Wilson, General Manager, United Airlines – Thailand.
This is the first time that Quiz USA has been organized in Thailand and aims to promote knowledge of the U.S. including the country’s history, culture, politics and literature among Thai secondary students. Following the spelling bee format, quizzes were held in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Kanchanaburi and Had Yai with more than 5,000 Thai students registering online for the chance to participate in one of the six quizzes.
United has been a supporter of a number of education related projects in Thailand that also includes the recent THB500,000 worth of air tickets provided for Thailand’s Fulbright scholarship students. The Fulbright educational sponsorship program has been part of United Airlines’ community efforts in Thailand since the airline began operations to Thailand more than 20 years ago.
