Anxiety disorders affect as many as 1 in every 10 American children according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. To help address the issues and needs of these children and their families, the NJ Center for Tourette Syndrome is expanding the scope of its popular Wednesday Webinars to include an in-depth Anxiety Series. The series begins Wednesday, June 29 with More than Shyness: What is Social Anxiety Disorder and How is it Treated? by Dr. Daniela Colognori.
“We know the prevalence of anxiety disorders is not limited to the Tourette Syndrome community we serve,” said NJCTS Executive Director Faith W. Rice,“And we’ve designed this series to be applicable to every family dealing with childhood anxiety disorders.” The Anxiety Series will feature in-depth discussions on diagnosis, treatments and coping strategies for children, adolescents and their families. Speakers and topics will include:
June 29- Social Anxiety Disorder - Dr. Daniela Colognori
July 13- Developmentally-Appropriate Anxiety- Dr. Yevgeniya Ratnovsky
July 27- Anxiety Treatment Options for Kids and Families- Dr. Diana Antinoro
August 17- Building Anxiety-Free Environments- Dr. Shawn Ewbank
October 26- How to Talk about Childhood Anxiety- Dr. Joelle Beecher McGovern
Wednesday Webinars are available at no cost to families, educators, medical and mental health professionals. (Professional development credits are available to qualified participants.) Registration is required and can be completed by visiting NJCTS.org.
Since 2008, NJCTS has delivered informative web-based seminars on topics related to Tourette Syndrome and its associated disorders to an audience that has grown to include all regions of the United States and eleven countries. The Anxiety Series marks an important expansion for the Center. “We are delighted to take the success of our Wednesday Webinar series and use it to deliver cutting-edge and practical information to more families and professionals working with children living with a broader range of neurobehavioral disorders,” said Rice.
