Various large-scale IT projects, both private and of the government are experiencing serious delays due to the country’s chronic skills shortage.

This means good news IT overseas professionals looking for a better life in Australia. As of October, the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) now include Computing Professionals specialising in CISSP, C++/C#/C, Java, J2EE, Network security, Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP and SIEBEL.

The bulk of the IT vacancies are situated in Canberra and Adelaide where fortunately the cost of living and quality of life is suited to young professional with families. Up to now, the influx of jobs, coupled with the modest cost of housing, ease of travel to work, and nature are what lures skilled migrants to the Land Down Under. Both Canberra and Adelaide are affordable places to live, with high standards of living. In the UK, for example, an IT professional would have to earn twice as much just to enjoy the same standard of living in Australia. It’s no wonder then that most IT professionals chose Australia.

To qualify as an immigrating computing professional in Australia, one must be under 45 years of age, proficient in English, have an IT degree, and with a minimum of 4 years of experience.

IT professionals interested in immigrating to Australia can take a free Online Assessment at National Visas to determine their chances of getting a Skilled Migrant visa. Australia's immigration system is based on a point system, and applicants whose skills are included in the MOLD in-demand list automatically are automatically deemed 'crucial' for the country. As such, they earn more visa points and their visa applications are fast-tracked.
