PCL Toronto employees are showing off their generous community spirit again. Today, PCL Constructors Canada Inc. (Toronto) and the CNIB announced a partnership that will help enhance the independence of blind and partially sighted clients through building improvements at CNIB’s Lake Joseph Centre (Lake Joe).

In the lead up to Lake Joe’s 50th anniversary celebration on August 20, 2011, PCL will be donating general contracting services for the construction of a new staff residence. The new staff residence will be constructed entirely by PCL employee volunteers and through the generous support of labour and materials from the construction subtrade community.

“For more than a century, PCL has been building in local communities from coast-to-coast because we care about those communities,” said PCL executive vice president Chris Gower. “It makes me incredibly proud to watch PCLers and our subtrade partners come together to support such a worthy cause that will help strengthen this community and support Canadians with vision loss.”

Lake Joe adds to the legacy of charitable projects PCL has donated to local communities. In 2004, PCL completed the Darling Home for Kids (formerly Rose Cherry Home) and the Brantford Hospice, which were delivered almost entirely through generous donations and built by volunteers from the construction community.

“This is an amazing and generous gift for Lake Joe,” said Jacqueline Harrison, CNIB Lake Joseph Centre manager. “This residence will benefit both the staff and the clients here at Lake Joe.”

Located at the north end of Lake Joseph in Central Ontario's magnificent Muskoka district, Lake Joe offers a unique mix of rehabilitation and recreational programs for people who are living with vision loss or other disabilities.
