The Torch Theatre will open this July at 4721 North Central Avenue in Phoenix, and man oh man are we ready for action. Really, what better place for a theatre than on the same block with a church, a massage parlor, a bird store, and a hot dog joint? Did we mention you can take the light rail to get to us? We are awesome!
Shows will be held on July 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd to mark the grand opening. Show times and performing troupes are listed below.
Members of the press are invited to our special preview shows on July 8th, 9th & 10th at 8:00 PM. Each show will feature Torch troupes and a talk-back after the show. You may reserve your seats by emailing info[.]thetorchtheatre.com.
The theater is located at 4721 North Central Avenue, just south of Camelback, and seats 33 patrons. The full address is 4721 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85012 and the closest light rail stops are those at Central/Campbell and Central/Camelback.
Formed in 2007 by a group of Phoenix improvisers, The Torch Theatre produces shows that are rooted in longform improvisation. To date, Torch troupes have performed in every theatre, art gallery, street corner and coffee shop in the greater Phoenix area. We are truly happy to finally have a place to call home.
Longform improvisation focuses on scenework, relationships and recurring themes. The Torch has some of Arizona's finest improvisational performers working together to bring professional improv to The Valley, and focuses on improvisation as a theatrical format, not just as a means to write sketch comedy or land a sitcom. The Torch also teaches classes and is hell-bent on getting the masses to give improvisation a shot.
The Torch is pleased to add to the growing improvisation scene in Phoenix, joining theatre companies like the Jester’z in Tempe and National Comedy Theatre in Mesa, who also promote improvisation as an art form.
Tickets for all shows are $10.00 and may be purchased via Brown Paper Tickets at brownpapertickets.com. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the show. The box office will open a half hour before show time.
Each of our grand opening shows will feature different Torch Theatre troupes. Notable performances include Galapagos, Apollo 12, Mail Order Bride, Light Rail Pirates, Searching for X, The Foundation and Unicorn Warpath.
