GER’s flagship application, HC Standard®, is a ground-breaking solution designed to help first responders track patients during mass casualty incidents and upload vital information to a central system in real time. To help GER showcase the system in the national exercise, BlueStar and Motorola donated dozens of its MC-75 and MC-65 handheld devices loaded with HC Standard. BlueStar co-sponsored GER’s participation in the exercise and supported the company’s interactions with the relevant government agencies.
“BlueStar’s sponsorship of GER in the National Level Exercise demonstrates our commitment to supporting our software development partners and helping our value-added resellers sell more Motorola products through the addition of ground-breaking software applications,” says Peggy Lane, Motorola Government Business Development Manager for BlueStar. “Perhaps most important, we support solutions that provide first responders mission critical technology, and GER’s HC Standard certainly fits that description.”
In the simulated scenario played out in NLE 11, National Guard units deployed to multiple sites to aid local authorities with natural disaster relief. Two units—one sent to Meridian, Mississippi, to deal with an earthquake and another sent to Volk Field, Wisconsin, to respond to a tornado—brought Motorola HC-75 and HC-65 handhelds loaded with HC Standard. National Guard units from 10 other states also used the HC Standard system.
Using HC Standard, National Guardsmen created electronic records of each patient, gathering identifying information, vital signs, injury specifics, and treatment details with the Motorola handhelds. Information could be plugged into the MC-75s and MC-65s or scanned from patient wrist bands using the devices’ barcode scanners. The data was automatically synced into the HC Standard server so participants at all levels could see pertinent information on injured people from multiple locations in real time. The fast upload of information—carried out with 100 percent accuracy during the exercise—allowed organizers at a high level to make real-time, informed decisions about resource allocation and modify response efforts accordingly.
“HC Standard performed as designed so that not only could the onsite responders quickly access information, but other agencies and facilities in remote locations had full visibility of the incident,” says Colby Farrow, MPH at Global Emergency Resources. “The HC Standard Patient Tracking System was fully utilized at the incident and allowed for patient tracking and patient clinical data to be shared among all the participants, whether on-scene or online remotely.”
Combined with the Motorola MC-75 and MC-65, HC Standard is the next generation of onsite patient tracking—for both emergency and everyday situations. The ruggedized Motorola devices are the perfect vehicle for HC Standard, offering sophisticated wireless connectivity, mobile phone calling capabilities, barcode scanning, and the ability to capture video, audio, and still images. The combined system is ideal for regular use by police, fire department, and EMS crews responding to accidents and injury scenes, as well as routine tracking in a healthcare environment. The inclusion of HC Standard on the Motorola MC-75 and MC-65 gives BlueStar’s value-added resellers an attractive sales opportunity for first responder units of local, state, and federal governments, national defense and disaster relief agencies, and a wide variety of healthcare facilities.
