For over 25 years now, the award recipient has been at the forefront of producing electric, hybrid and bimodal vehicles with the aim of improving environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

Working closely with large-scale vehicle manufacturers (FIAT, Piaggio and Iveco) and with well-known research institutes (Fiat Research Centre), Micro-Vett produces high-level technology that combines high standard, quality vehicles with the complete technical reliability of an electric traction system designed and produced in-house. In this way, it promotes concrete solutions for mobility and environmental problems in urban areas.

"Competitors have had limited advancement because they are either small enterprises focusing on only one particular product or catering to a niche local demand," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Vishnu Muralidharan. "In contrast, Micro-Vett has been able to successfully address a wide range of customer needs, both locally and internationally, because of its varied and extensive product line."

Micro-Vett’s expertise has been in converting and creating improvements in performance on a standard vehicle. The company’s successful conversion of conventional vehicles is based on its market positioning where it builds to order conversion vehicles that are sold to customers along with the battery. In addition, the company has also positioned itself as a second stage battery fitter.

"Micro-Vett’s technological superiority in terms of product conversion lies not only in partial conversions into hybrids, but also in full conversions into battery electric vehicles (BEVs)," adds Muralidharan. "The company’s broad product line allows it to cater to people carriers, goods carriers, special vehicles, and commercial vehicles, to an extent, too."

The company has a large customer base including Fiat, ENel, DHL, Disneyland, local municipality and corporation waste management organisations, city councils including Turin, Reggio Emilia, Livorno, Stockholm, and dozens of other local authorities as well as large, medium and small-scale companies and cities.

Micro-Vett has won a first-of-its-kind project - the Vicenza Eco-Logistic Centre (V.E.LO.CE.) This European project involves an environmentally-friendly transit point for intelligent and zero impact goods distribution in the most important parts of the city from the point of view of architecture, history and tourism. All essential urban services are guaranteed and are free of atmospheric and acoustic pollution.

"Micro-Vett has used the same strategy on light passenger vehicles," concludes Muralidharan. "This has enabled it to convert the existing few conventional vehicles into electrically driven equivalents with very high performance drive train and battery, supported with efficient usage of available technology. Additionally, the company is now equipping its vehicles with the necessary intelligence to allow for vehicle-to-grid interaction."

The Product Line Strategy Award is presented to the company that has excelled in the following criteria: breadth of product line, size of addressable customer base, impact on customer value, impact on market share and breadth of applications/markets served.
