"Thanks very much to Frost & Sullivan for its Growth, Innovation and Leadership Award. I wish I could be there with everyone but, Thank you! Hopefully you will join us in taking on the global challenges of climate change". So said Sir Richard Branson in a video address to those in attendance at Frost & Sullivan's GIL 2011: Europe - Growth, Innovation and Leadeership congress at London's Emirates Stadium. The founder of the Virgin Group was recognized by the Growth Partnership Company for his visionary leadership in founding the Carbon War Room, one of the most influential non-profit organizations in the energy and environment sector today.
Carbon War Room COO and former Virgin Mobile CEO, Peter Boyd, who accepted the award on Richard Branson's behalf, added,"We are truly honoured" stressing that "policy, capital and technology have to come together to solve the sustainability problems". Introducing the award, Frost & Sullivan's Vice President of Growth, Innovation and Leadership, Brian Denker, described the Carbon War Room initiative as the greatest entrepreneurship opportunity of our time.
The GIL award for Richard Branson put the seal on the two-day annual gathering attended by hundreds of CEOs and top executives. Coming from both small and medium size companies as well as from large corporations, these worked together around the three main congress themes: Growth, Innovation and Leadership.
Frost & Sullivan Partner and Vice President Dorman Followwill opened this year's congress and introduced Frost & Sullivan Global President and Managing Director Aroop Zutshi.
Mr Zutshi's keynote speech set the stage for an engaging and interactive programme by exploring the Six Platforms of GIL. "Innovation drives growth", said Zutshi emphasizing that "the competitive bar continues to rise and is becoming even more complex every day". He added that "to survive in a competitive environment, business leaders need to strengthen their visionary perspective for the future which will provide for a significant advantage over the rest".
The keynote speech was followed by a presentation of Frost & Sullivan's concept of Mega Trends in world markets. Dorman Followwill introduced this by saying: "These are true Mega Trends, bottom up top trends identified by our strategic market experts and based on unparalleled research across industries and countries globally". Partner Sarwant Singh pointed to the Mega Trends of the future.
GIL 2011: Europe featured eight industry tracks enabling executives to share best practices, engage one another to inspire new ideas and fresh perspectives for driving growth, Innovation and leadership.
Each day culminated with the 2011 Growth Excellence Awards Reception and Banquet at which the prestigious Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards were bestowed upon 40 companies that proved most innovative and with strong visionary perspectives.
GIL 2011: Europe also featured four career focused tracks including marketing, research and design, corporate leadership and corporate strategy. During these sessions, participants networked with cross-industry executives to benchmark and validate strategies, share best practices and gain access to necessary and proven tools in order to become greater contributors to the bottom-line.
This year's GIL 2011: Europe will resonate all over the world throughout the rest of the year and several continued GIL Global programmes planned for: Japan (Tokio, 12 July), Korea (Seoul, 14 July), Africa (Cape Town, 25 August), USA (California, 11-14 September), India (Mumbai, 28-29 September), Asia Pacific (Singapore, 12-13 October), Middle East (Abu Dhabi, 1 November), China (Shanghai, 8 November), Latin America (Sao Paulo, 1 December).
