Labor is the biggest cost whatever your business, whether manufacturing or service. In many workplaces, such as shipyards, aviation repair stations, manufacturing plants, service yards and maintenance facilities, customarily workers use their own standard hand tools on the job. While this may appear to save money for the employer, in fact, it results in a severely negative impact to the company’s bottom line. However, independent tests by the military and by an international certification agency now show how adding just a few LINK tools can remedy this bottom-line injury.

In a three-month long user test conducted by the U.S. Army Aviation Training Center at Fort Eustis, 18 commonplace mechanics tools in the standard toolbox were replaced by automatic-locking LINK® tools. The result: Instructors reported a 25% - 50% reduction in task duration. The replacement cost of these 18 tools was a mere $487.55 at retail. The LINK locking system locks onto the standard sockets and attachments already in the standard toolbox.

Even if the time reduction from using LINK tools in your company results only in a very conservative 10% increase in efficiency, and if the company’s total cost burden for a maintenance or repair employee is as low as $1,000 per week (likely a great deal more in G20 countries), supplying the worker with the more efficient LINK tools will still save the company $100 per week or over $5,000 annually for each technician. After five weeks, the supplied tools are completely paid for and the savings now go to the bottom line. If, for example, there are 100 tool users working for the company, an additional $500,000 in annual profit will be generated from this one decision.

In addition to the U.S. Army Aviation Training Center evaluation, a parallel three-month on-the-job study was conducted by TÜV Rheinland of North America in an array of industrial settings. That extended study not only found a similar increase in productivity but also found a reduction in time off for medical conditions, because LINK tools reduce body strain, joint pain, and bruised and cut hands. Damage to costly equipment is also reduced because LINK tools eliminated the possibility of a dropped tool damaging that equipment.

Having employees use only their own old-style tools is costly and hurts your profitability. When Management provides LINK tools, profits are increased due to both decreased costs and increased productivity. Third-party user tests of LINK tools provide a clear example of how a small modification of a common business practice can directly impact your company’s bottom line.
