Muskego facility to open on Earth Day (NYSE: VE and Paris Euronext: VIE)

Veolia Environmental Services today announced that it will open a new, green construction maintenance facility on Earth Day, Friday, April 22, designed and built in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Silver Certification standards. The new building, located at W144 S6350 College Court in Muskego, will serve as a maintenance facility for Veolia ES vehicles from throughout the metro area.

“There is a growing demand to incorporate sustainability, green building practices and environmental stewardship in nearly every industry today, including waste services,” said Jim Long, President and CEO of Veolia ES Solid Waste, Inc. “We recognize the importance of being a good neighbor by improving our sustainability across all aspects of our business, and today’s opening is just another step in our ongoing sustainability efforts.”

According to Long, other sustainability efforts in Wisconsin include landfill gas-to-energy pipelines in both Wisconsin Rapids and the Milwaukee metro area, wetland preservation at several Wisconsin landfills, additional green construction buildings throughout the state and more.
“Muskego is a very important community to Veolia, and we’re proud that we could bring such a great project to the city,” Long added.

The new maintenance facility was designed and constructed to be energy-efficient and sustainable. For example, skylights and garage windows have been placed throughout the building to minimize the need for electric lighting. Additionally, most of the material used as backfill is recycled concrete. The building also uses a radiant floor heating system, motion sensor lighting to optimize energy consumption and more. The building was constructed by MSI General.

“Veolia Environmental Services is committed to providing the highest level of waste services to our customers,” Long said. “We are hopeful that our neighbors will like what they see at our new facility and also recognize that Veolia will continue to have a positive environmental impact on the local community.”

The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, is a nationallyrecognized third-party rating system for the design, construction and operation of energyefficient, low-environmental impact buildings. A growing number of cities and states now requires, or provides incentive for, new commercial projects to become LEED certified.

The new building will serve as the location where preventative maintenance and repair is done on Veolia collection vehicles.
