Opsview, the open source IT monitoring software provider, today announced the latest release of Opsview Enterprise designed to help organisations improve their IT performance through the effective monitoring of their IT environment. Opsview Enterprise 3.12 provides organisations with increased scalability to monitor their physical and virtual infrastructure, both on premise and in the cloud. Opsview’s automated configuration reduces deployment times, while an improved graphical interface provides organisations with a better single view of their entire IT environment. At the same time, Opsview Enterprise offers the functionality and professional support associated with traditional proprietary IT monitoring solutions at far less cost.

“Using legacy, proprietary software to address the challenges today’s organisations are facing can be both expensive and difficult,” said James Peel, product manager at Opsview. “Many of the large proprietary vendors drive organisations to use their entire ‘solutions’ suite which can be cumbersome and result in organisations paying for functionality that they don’t require. As Opsview Enterprise is open source it is much more customisable meaning that it can better meet an organisations’ ever changing business and technological needs, much more cost effectively.”

Opsview Enterprise is built on the Nagios® open-source IT monitoring engine, which has more than 500,000 users worldwide. It is designed to meet the needs of large organisations that have complex IT environments that require monitoring 24/7. Opsview Enterprise scales up to more than 20,000 hosts (devices) and is managed centrally through a master dashboard.

Key features of Opsview Enterprise 3.12 include:
• Improved cluster monitoring – the ability to monitor a cluster of servers (both physical and virtual) and generate alerts based on overall cluster availability. The cluster monitoring plug-in works with server clusters in both active and standby modes and allows users to set specific thresholds. E.g. warning alerts will be raised if availability drops below 90%.
• Rest API – the ability to automate all aspects of Opsview Enterprise’s configuration and provide a customisable framework to integrate it with other IT systems. This can save organisations money through reduced staff overheads and minimise human data entry errors.
• SUSE 11 support – allows organisations who have standardised on SUSE to run Opsview Enterprise without requiring a different Linux distribution. This enables more organisations to use Opsview for enterprise monitoring providing greater access to the time and money savings available when compared to competitive products.
• Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) aggregation– allows Opsview to be an aggregator for SolarWinds network management alerts, providing users with a ‘single pane of glass’ view to ensure organisations can quickly identify and fix problems.
• Greater visibility and faster access – a better graphical interface and improved handling of historical data, allows organisations to carry out trend analysis and identify areas where they can raise the performance of their IT.

“The explosion of data and devices has increased the need for effective IT monitoring as organisations need to ensure that service levels are maintained across their diverse IT infrastructure. However, many organisations still have a fragmented view of their IT assets, which can make identifying problems and obtaining a holistic view of performance extremely difficult. Opsview Enterprise enables organisations to rationalise their IT by providing them with a consolidated, centralised view of their IT systems. Through providing the right tools, Opsview Enterprise can help organisations more proactively monitor their IT performance and assist them in reducing the cost of future IT incidents,” added James Peel.
