These product improvements and customization proactively enhance the sales of ATE, especially with customers’ realizing the importance of testing. Due to the straitened economic conditions, some end users resorted to developing test equipment internally to reduce capital expenditure (CAPEX), while many others deferred purchases of expensive ATE. However, with the greatly improved customer awareness, end users set aside funds for ATE purchases.
Vendors make the most of this rise in awareness by developing new products and regularly training technicians on new test equipment usage for better adherence to standards.
"Standardization challenges vendors in the market today, as they need to cater to different regional needs and meet all regulations, especially in developing test program sets (TPS), " says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Sujan Sami. "As the process of developing TPS becomes more standardized, compliance with standards ceases to be an issue."
The market is bolstered by the influx of new airplanes in the commercial sector and governments' involvement in the military sector. In fact, government spending on avionics even during the economic downturn helped sustain growth in the military segment of the ATE market.
"The continuous increase in government spending in avionics leads to significant growth in the respective ATE segment as well, " notes Sami. "Newer and improved ATE replace the older, existing test systems, dramatically hiking the sales volumes."
