Hoboken, NJ, United States, 2011/03/16 - John Wiley & Sons, Inc., (NYSE: JWa, JWb) announced enhancements to its Custom Select program that enable Higher Education instructors to select content at the sub-chapter level to use in customized course materials. NYSE: JWa, JWb
“By facilitating a greater degree of customization, Wiley Custom Select now empowers faculty to create instructional materials that directly support and reinforce what is going on in the classroom and laboratory and help students achieve success,” says Iam Williams, Director, Custom Learning Solutions. “It’s an exciting new capability that benefits everyone.”
Wiley Custom Select was first launched in 2009 to enable higher education instructors to create custom texts and course materials online from a collection of books and lab manuals across all three of Wiley’s businesses, add their own materials, and select eBook or print delivery for their students.
“In almost every conversation we have had with faculty about Wiley Custom Select, the question was asked if they would ever be able to select sub-chapter content and edit those materials to suit their unique needs,” says Mr. Williams. “We now have a resounding ‘Yes, you can!’ response.”
With the latest customization option, based on content in an XML format, instructors can select material and adjust the sequence at the chapter and sub-chapter levels. Faculty can also use the content editor to format editable text, rewrite sections, add and delete images, insert math notation and chemical structures, and then preview the results before submitting them for publication and sale to students. This groundbreaking toolset will initially be available for a group of lab manuals, primarily in chemistry, anatomy and physiology, and physics.
"The ability to select and edit at the sub-chapter level opens up great new possibilities,” says John Meyer, Director Content Delivery Technology. “It offers materials customized to exactly what instructors want to cover and what students need to learn."
