This remarkable product launched in the first half of 2010 uniquely combines safety spectacles and a disposable respiratory protective mask.
“JSP Ltd’s FilterSpec is a significant innovation in the personal protective equipment market as it addresses one of the most long standing challenges faced by the industry – that of ‘fit’,” notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Anamika Chaudhuri. “In addition to overcoming the problem associated with the incompatibility between safety eyewear and a respiratory protective mask, the product has solved problems related from poor face fit such as leakage and fogging of the lens interrupting the normal flow of work.”
The FilterSpec combines the respiratory mask with safety glasses or goggles in such a manner that both the safety devices function efficiently, independently and in absolute harmony as a unit and satisfies the fit test mandated by HSE. The safety spectacles comply with EN 166.1.F standard and the goggle with EN166.1.B.3.4 and the respiratory mask complies with the EN1827 FMP2 standard.
“Apart from the standard benefits of meeting the fit test mandated by the HSE and offering protection from silica, sand and dust at demolition sites, construction sites, flour mills and in industrial applications and processes, FilterSpec also possesses certain value-added features,” states Chaudhuri. “For example, the lens used in its safety eyewear is one-piece that ensures optimal coverage, is anti-mist and anti-scratch. The spectacle frame is fully adjustable, ensuring the wearer’s comfort.”
The respiratory mask holder and filter, including an integral exhaust valve, weigh less than 60 grams and do not create any burden on the wearer, thereby offering complete comfort. The exhale valve offers filter element longevity and reduction in heat and carbon dioxide buildup.
The filter in the respirator offers better than the 94 per cent efficiency requirement of the standard and the NIOSH N95 requirements. It is designed in such a way that the nose piece and straps hold the valve in line with the wearer’s nose keeping the internal environment cool and dry and maintaining a secure fit so that the lens remains free from fogging.
“FilterSpec is unique; no other competitor has been able to develop such an innovative concept that combines protective eyewear with a respiratory mask,” concludes Chaudhuri. “FilterSpec clearly demonstrates JSP Ltd’s research and development caliber and distinguishes the company from the competition as one of the leading manufacturers of personal protective equipment in Europe.”
The positive market response towards FilterSpec indicates its superiority and ability to support optimised worker productivity and enhanced revenue output. JSP has filed a patent for the product and its design is registered.
