Leeds, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, 2011/02/24 - Toledo cleanroom partitioning system has been used to create a 2,400 sq ft Class 7 cleanroom for medical device manufacturer Transpack Medical in Lancashire. The cleanroom was installed by Avanta UK Limited.
Transpack Medical provides manufacturing services to the medical device industry, offering a specialist service of assembly, packing and sterilisation of medical devices to customers' specifications.
Troax's Toledo cleanroom partitioning system has been used to create a 2,400 sq ft Class 7 cleanroom for medical device manufacturer Transpack Medical's new production facility in Blackburn, Lancashire. The cleanroom was installed by Avanta UK Limited in the latest of a series of projects that the company has carried out for clients using Toledo partitioning.
As part of its ongoing expansion, the company recently moved to new premises, an 11,000 sq ft facility with a ISO14644-1:1999 (Class 10,000) sq ft Class 7 cleanroom and packing area suite with a 3,000 sq ft mezzanine storage level above. Transpack Medical brought in Avanta UK to construct the cleanroom, mezzanine level and other facilities on the site; Avanta then specified Toledo partitioning as it offered a versatile and easy-to-build solution for the project.
Toledo's modular construction was an important advantage as the cleanroom layout has a number of awkward corners and angles and has been sub-divided to create additional areas such as a changing room and tube cutting room. Airlocks, consisting of two sets of double doors and transfer hatches which allow trollies to be pushed in and out of the area, have also been included in the design.
Explains Andrew Chipp at Avanta UK: "Toledo partitioning is ideal for this type of project where high quality construction is required. Because of its modular design, the system is very versatile which makes it easy to adapt to the required layout, both in new premises and in older facilities where we may have to alter the design to fit within an existing layout. Clients also like the system as it offers them the flexibility to extend or alter the cleanroom layout in the future with minimal disruption and cost. We've used Toledo since it was first launched a few years ago and find it meets our requirements really well."
The Toledo system is produced in a steel, monobloc construction and uses an inert and non-particle shedding infill finish. To prevent the collection of particles and ensure easy to clean, smooth surfaces, Toledo is coated in powder paint and has a two-line panel junction and flush line double glazing, resulting in minimal ledges and corners.
Avanta also recently used Toledo partitioning to create a dust-free office suite for SCA Hygiene Products at their factory in Prudhoe, Northumberland.. The three offices are situated in a cleanroom area where hygiene products are manufactured so an equally high level of construction was required for the office areas.
As Andrew Chipp continues, Toledo's design made it the obvious choice for the project: "Because Toledo is specially designed for cleanroom applications, it meets the strict cleanliness and hygiene standards required within the controlled environment of SCA's factory. Using Toledo, we've been able to create the high quality cleanroom environment required by our customer at an economical cost."
And, as a further illustration of Toledo's versatility, Avanta (avantauk.com) also recently used the partitioning to create a cleanroom for a very different type of application - a production area for chocolate manufacturer Horsley, Hick and Flower, part of the Kinnerton Group. Here, Avanta constructed the cleanroom on a newly built mezzanine level when the company needed to create more space to introduce a new product line.
