Syneron Dental Lasers, the world's leading provider of innovative dental laser technologies, today announced it has entered into a long-term clinical research agreement with one of the world's leading academic institutions in the field of Laser Dentistry, the University of Barcelona. Syneron Dental's LiteTouch™ incorporating the Laser-in-Handpiece™ technology will be incorporated into research and teaching activities within the University's Faculty of Dentistry Master Program in Laser Dentistry.
Laser dentistry education is still at its infancy, yet demand for dental laser treatments is significantly growing. Syneron Dental's laser technology is already being integrated into many areas of day-to-day treatments, including such treatments as restorative procedures, prosthodontics, orthodontics, pediatrics, aesthetics and many more.
The University of Barcelona is ranked among the world's top six academic institutions offering a unique Master's Program in Laser Dentistry for practitioners wanting to deepen their knowledge of dental laser applications and technologies. The advanced two-year Laser Technology in Dentistry program, launched in 2010, awards practitioners with a European Master’s Degree in Oral Laser Applications.
As part of the agreement, the program's co-Directors, Dr. Josep Arnabat-Dominguez and Dr. Antonio Jesus Espańa-Tost - both researchers in the field of Odontological and Maxillofacial Pathology and Therapeutics and key opinion leaders in laser dentistry - will lead the LiteTouch™ research and teaching activities as well as the collaboration between Syneron Dental Lasers and the university.
Syneron Dental's LiteTouch™ is the world's first non-fiber Erbium YAG dental laser for hard and soft tissue dental treatments. This revolutionary technology has been commercially available since 2007 and has been in use by numerous dental clinics across Asia and Europe. Its unique “Laser-in-Handpiece™” technology integrates the entire laser mechanism within a small sized chamber (12cm long by 2.3cm diameter), which mimics the widely used turbine handpiece. It is the only dental laser that makes it possible for dentists to enjoy a complete expression of their dental expertise and mastery.
"Our collaboration with Syneron Dental Lasers will help foster an increased research in the field of Laser Dentistry", said co-Director, Dr. Josep Arnabat-Dominguez. Dr. Antonio Jesus Espańa-Tost added, "With such access to the latest technological advancements in dental lasers, it will be highly beneficial in broadening the scope of research in laser dentistry."
"We are very pleased with the collaboration, ” said Ira Prigat, Syneron Dental’s President. "LiteTouch™ can certainly provide the paradigm shift that is so necessary to change higher education." "Through its close collaboration with key opinion leaders and researchers, Syneron Dental Lasers has set a goal to ensure that it continues to advance the field of laser dentistry research and share the company's technology innovations with the academic world." "I am confident that this first-of-its-kind collaboration will mark the beginning of many more future research collaborations with academic institutions across the globe."
