Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) and Catch Media announced today that the two companies are working together to power a robust music discovery experience for users of Catch Media’s Play Anywhere® technology, a capability that enables consumers to access and enjoy their personal music collections both on the web and on mobile devices. Catch Media and Rovi have signed an agreement whereby Catch Media will incorporate Rovi entertainment data and technology into Play Anywhere®. The integration of Rovi solutions into the Catch Media platform is designed to enable consumers to find information and rich media content about their favorite music and artists in their home media playlists where and when they want.
Catch Media’s Play Anywhere® platform provides convenience to consumers allowing them to enjoy their music on their mobile device and on the web. Play Anywhere® offers consumers, for the first time, a simple way to enjoy their music collection and services seamlessly across multiple devices. With Play Anywhere® technology, whether consumers purchase a physical CD at participating retail stores, buy a song online, or have songs in their music libraries on their PCs and mobile devices, their music collection shows up on their supported devices.
Rovi Music provides Play Anywhere® users with an engaging music discovery experience that enables them to dive deeper to learn more about the music and artists in their personal media collections. Consumers with Play Anywhere® can also access rich media and video, powered by Rovi Video, and descriptive album and artist information and images right from their mobile devices. The entertainment data paired with an identification solution from Rovi powers the Play Anywhere® platform, enhancing the individual audio tracks with information on the artist and album and helping to facilitate streamlined access to Catch Media users’ music playlists and songs for delivery of their personal songs to the device of their choice.
“Rovi and Catch Media share a vision for bringing consumers the ability to access and manage their digital entertainment collections easily from wherever they are--whether at home, on the go or in the car,” said Simon Adams, senior vice president, worldwide data sales, Rovi Corporation. “Catch Media is providing consumers with instant access to their personal music tracks with just a touch of a button on their mobile devices, eliminating the need for consumers to carry their collections wherever they go. By aligning our technologies with those of Catch Media, we hope to enhance the consumer entertainment experience by providing seamless integration of music discovery into their digital lifestyles.”
“The Play Anywhere® platform provides consumers with a convenient way to listen to and access their digital content on different platforms where and when they want. At the same time, Play Anywhere® provides content owners and content distributors a sustainable vehicle to monetize their content on an ongoing basis,” said Yaacov Ben-Yaacov, CEO Catch Media. “With the integration of Rovi technologies into our platform, we can take the experience to new heights and offer our users the ease and portability of learning more about the music they love and discovering new artists — anytime, anywhere.”
Rovi Music covers more than 2 million album releases and 20 million tracks – from popular hits and cult favorites to minor works and classical masterpieces. Rovi Video incorporates data on more than 3 million TV shows, movies, sports and celebrities. Rovi Music and Rovi Video are a part of a vast Rovi entertainment data library that includes information on music, movies, games, books, television, sports, awards and also includes cover art, reviews, celebrity biographies, rich media and more.
