The EAC is composed of 27 high-level industry leaders and subject matter experts in electricity policy who represent diverse backgrounds and a wide range of technical expertise and experience. The EAC’s mission is to provide recommendations to DOE on the many programs and policies it implements under the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 in order to modernize the Nation’s electricity delivery infrastructure. A complete list of EAC members is available at the DOE website.

The EAC held its first 2010 meeting on October 29, 2010 at the offices of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in Arlington, Virginia. The evening prior to the meeting, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu attended a private reception honoring the EAC members, where he indicated that the EAC is important to DOE and that recommendations from the Committee will be taken very seriously by senior management. DOE Under Secretary Cathy Zoi provided the keynote address at the meeting.

Richard Cowart, Director and Principal of the Regulatory Assistance Project, serves as Chair of the EAC, with Commissioner Lauren Azar of the Wisconsin Public Service Commission as Vice Chair. Patricia Hoffman, Assistant Secretary for Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, helped facilitate discussion.

Energetics (energetics.com) has supported the EAC since its inception in 2008 by providing both technical and meeting support. Program Director Peggy Welsh has been actively involved in supporting DOE to identify and vet the members, determine potential study topics and set the 2010/2011 agenda for the EAC. Energetics staff Ms. Welsh, Cami Dodge, Natalie Kempkey, Amy Konigsburg, and Akanimo Udo provided support for the first meeting, and Energetics will continue to support the EAC over the next two years.

For more information about the EAC, please contact Peggy Welsh.
