Michael Dorf presents the third annual New York Jewish Music & Heritage Festival, also known as the Oyhoo Festival, to take place September 10 – 17.
The Festival’s mission is to demonstrate the thriving cultural movement of Jewish artists from around the world.
Highlights of the weeklong Festival include:
SEPT. 10
‘An Evening with John Zorn,’ the opening night concert features an unprecedented combination of four different configurations of Masada, begins at 8:00 p.m. at the 92nd Street Y.
SEPT. 11
The Second Annual Jewish Music Awards hosted by comedian Jackie Hoffman, begins at 8:00 p.m. at the Museum of Jewish Heritage. A special lifetime honor will be awarded to Steve Reich. Live. There will be live performances by Soulfarm, Y-Love, Rachel Sage, Benny Bwoy, and others.
SEPT. 12
‘Frank London’s Hazonos’ will debut for the first time in the United States, to begin at 8:00 p.m. at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, with evocative arrangements of Jewish liturgical music by Frank London, one of the most important musicians out of the New Jewish Renaissance.
‘La Mar Enfortuna,’ featuring legendary noir rock group Elysian Fields, Oren Bloedow and Jennifer Charles, takes place at 8:00 p.m. at Merkin Concert Hall.
This musical venue explores the lost or forgotten music of Sephardic origin from the 11th through 15th century, with a blend of jazz, folk, rock, Eastern, and Latin music.
SEPT. 13
An ‘Homage to Lenny Bruce & Free Speech’ takes place at 8:00 p.m. at the 92nd Street Y. It features an all-star line-up of Lewis Black, Judy Gold, Jeff Garlin, Todd Barry, Eugene Mirman, Jonathan Ames, Julie Goldman, and a very special guest. A rare video presentation will accompany the evening’s festivities.
‘Hip Hop Sulha,’ an Israeli and Palestinian hip-hop concert series begins at 9:00 p.m. at S.O.B.’s. Live performances include: Shaanan from Hadag Nachash, Saz, Sagol 59, Yuri Lane, Y-Love, and more. Proceeds from the concerts will be donated to organizations that foster Israeli and Palestinian coexistence initiatives through arts and sciences.
SEPT. 14
‘The Gathering of the Tribes,’ a gala of a concert begins at 6:00 p.m. at Irving Plaza. Moshav Band will jam to their breakout new album "Misplaced," Majestic Void will perform their new rock-opera “Ghost of Innocence,” Y-Love will perform “The Brooklyn Chassid of Hip-Hop,” and Rav Shmuel, will transport the phishy feel of Greenwich Village deep into the night.
The First Annual New York Yiddish Singalong featuring Neshama Carlebach, Joanne Borts, and others will take place at 8:00 p.m. at the 14th Street Y.
SEPT. 15
‘Get Downtown Shabbat,’ a Pre-Sabbath potluck family dinner and concert will begin at 6:00 p.m. at 7 World Trade Center.
SEPT. 17
‘Jewzapalooza,’ a large outdoor all-day free event featuring music by bands from both traditional and experimental music from the Jewish music spectrum will perform at Riverside Park [.] 72nd Street Park, from 11:00a.m. - 8:00p.m.
Featuring Hadag Nachash, David Broza, Pharaoh’s Daughter, Neshama Carlebach, Yosi Piementa’s Heavenly Jams Band, Y-Love, SoCalled, others.

Founded in 2004, the Festival is produced through the Downtown Arts Development, Inc., a non-profit organization focused on development of festivals, musical presentations, and educational activities.
