NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, has been awarded the highly coveted ISO 9001 certification as an addition to NAVTEQ’s 2008 corporate certificate from the International Organization for Standardization for its offices in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Recife and Porto Alegre. Bestowed by the world’s largest developer of international standards, NAVTEQ’s accomplishment reflects its dedication to develop a global set of best practices that can be replicated in offices around the world.
With this award, NAVTEQ’s customers benefit from the reassurance that the NAVTEQ® map and products are being built through the application of formalized business processes with a focus on continuous improvement. Throughout the ISO certification process, certified ISO auditors review all departments in each office with an eye to the effectiveness and efficiencies of processes as they relate to customer requirements.
All departments within NAVTEQ Brazilian offices must pass the rigorous standards to obtain ISO 9001 certification. This includes departments responsible for map and database management, collection and processing, technical support, sales and marketing as well as all back-office support departments such as finance and human resources.
“NAVTEQ is proud of gaining acknowledgement from one of the most recognized authorities on quality management for our internal processes,” stated Helder Azevedo, general manager - Latin America, NAVTEQ. “Enabling our customers’ applications and solutions with a strong quality foundation supports their own business goals and objectives to provide consumers with trusted navigation and location-based experiences.”
“As an authorized NAVTEQ reseller and leading provider of geo-IT consulting services and solutions across Brazil, we recognize the significance of NAVTEQ’s ISO certification,” stated Lara Musse Felix, Director of Santiago & Cintra Consultoria. “This certification enables us to feel more confident in quality and effectiveness of the NAVTEQ products that we offer to our end users.”
NAVTEQ has 120 employees located in Brazil. In addition to collection and production support, technical customer support is available in the Brazil office to assist customers in working with the NAVTEQ map database. Because NAVTEQ standardizes their map database to a single global data specification, customers can more easily reinvest development efforts used for bringing product to market for Brazil into applications to enter markets in other countries. This becomes extremely useful in South America where in addition to Brazil, NAVTEQ provides maps for Argentina, Chile, Colombia, French Guiana, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
