Hogan Construction Group, LLC, completed construction on Bartow County’s newest gem, The Clarence Brown Conference Center, in September. Groundbreaking on the facility was held July 1, 2009, and the grand opening and dedication ceremony took place October 10, 2010. Named in honor of the County’s Commissioner, Clarence Brown, this 43,515 square-foot facility will be host to social and business functions and offers the seamless efficiencies that state of the art technology affords.
The building was designed to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s requirements for a Silver Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Certification. LEED certification recognizes design and construction practices that are sustainable, reduce negative environmental impact, and increase a building’s profitability by lowering energy consumption. Based on extensive experience with LEED, Construction Management at-Risk project delivery, and public assembly projects, Hogan Construction Group was selected to be the project’s general contractor - from 14 other submitting firms. Executive Director of Cartersville-Bartow County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Ellen Archer commented on Hogan by saying, “We are really happy with their [Hogan's]knowledge of LEED certification.”
Designed by Lyman Davidson Dooley, Inc., the conference center is located on GA Highway 20, west of I-75. The 20-acre property features an outdoor pavilion and amphitheater. The facility is designed to host up to 17 different functions simultaneously. The main ballroom is 12,824 square-feet and can be divided into four separate spaces. The ballroom alone accommodates up to 1,400 people. The conference center will be new home of the Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau who will also operate the facility.
Some of the technological features include integrated video conferencing, telepresence, content archival/publishing, and distance learning opportunities, making this an ideal classroom extension for area community colleges. In addition, there are nine classroom/meeting rooms, a 300-seat lecture hall, and an executive boardroom. Interactive whiteboards, projection systems, additional video conference sites, large format film presentation screens, and annotation and assistive listening capabilities found in these areas will foster appeal to a broad corporate audience.
Facility Manager for Bartow County Government, Steve Stewart said, “The way a contractor finishes out a building is one of the ways I judge a good job – how they handle punch lists and the follow up. Our experience with Hogan has been really good. Hogan’s superintendents are excellent and it meant a lot to have the President of Hogan call me every couple of weeks throughout the entire process to make sure that things were going smoothly. We’ve got a really nice facility here. All in all, this was a pretty easy job from our perspective.”
