Houston, TX, United States, 2010/11/02 - Lanner Group, the simulation-modeling process improvement specialist urges US State law enforcement agencies to utilize simulation technology after research identified potential criminal justice savings of around $440 million (£280m) in a UK study.
Simulation-modeling specialist Lanner Group is urging state criminal justice stakeholders responsible for "justice reinvestment" to implement simulation-enabled process improvements after research across the Atlantic identified the potential for at least $440 million worth of efficiency savings in the UK alone.
The data, compiled by Lanner Group, proposes that all 43 regional law enforcement organizations in England and Wales apply its simulation-enabling process improvement PRISM software as adopted by Cambridgeshire Constabulary. The conservatively analyzed results revealed potential savings of $440 million across a population of 54.5 million people.
The study found that areas including call handling, incident response, forensics and custody management would reap the greatest benefits thanks to efficiencies gained through the refined processes and better informed decision-making that the PRISM technology brings.
According to the US Council of Government's State Justice Center, over the past 20 years, state spending on corrections has grown at a rate faster than nearly any other state budget item. Despite increasing corrections expenditures, recidivism rates remain high with half of all persons released from prison returning within three years. Lanner Group's Mandy Tague, director of business development Americas explains,
"In response to rising prison populations state justice departments have already realized the need to adopt a data-driven approach to reduce corrections spending and reinvest savings in strategies than can decrease crime by developing innovative approaches to delivering front line services.
"Using simulation-modeling software alongside other data-driven applications makes good fiscal sense."
Through using PRISM simulation software as part of its internal efficiency improvement program Cambridgeshire Constabulary recently identified cashable savings in excess of $4.4 million, and productivity savings of $6 million, with further savings earmarked across other areas in the organization.
David Jones, CEO Lanner Group comments, “In the past, process refinement has been synonymous with expensive consulting projects, but Lanner Group's simulation approach is designed to model and identify savings quickly, and with minimal investment, crucially eliminating the need for capital expenditure.
“$440 million is a modest indication of the savings which could be exploited through smarter use of simulation. In fact our insight shows that the real figure could be closer to $2 billion. We believe few law enforcement organizations can afford the luxury of ignoring what are relatively easy, rich pickings on this scale.”
