In celebration of Pro Bono Week and National Cyber Awareness Month, professionals from the Louisville Bar Association (LBA) and the Exploited Children's Help Organization (ECHO) will address a host of Internet-related security and safety issues to help parents and others gain a better understanding of how to guide their web-surfing children through the growing network of online dangers. Topics to be discussed will include the dangers of social websites, posting of personal information online, online predators and cyber bullying.

“With more children and adults using the Internet more than ever, parents are urged to educate themselves about the dangers posed by these emerging online technologies,” said Scott Furkin, Executive Director of the LBA. “The Cyber Crime Program is just one example of the collective effort between Louisville’s legal community and volunteers to educate children about the harmful consequences of risky behavior in cyberspace.”

The hour-long program is free and open to the public. Doors open at 11 am. Space is limited, reservations are encouraged. For additional event information or to register, visit loubar.org or contact Kate Lindsay by calling (502)292-6729

ECHO, Exploited Children’s Help Organization (echolou.org), was founded 23 years ago as a private, non-profit volunteer organization. The basic premise on which ECHO was founded – and continues to operate – is to provide help and address problems of child abuse and abduction, or child exploitation. ECHO currently has over 150 volunteers who conduct the development and implementation of all ECHO programs. New volunteer trainings are held at least four times per year. For more information or to volunteer with ECHO, please call (502) 636-3670 or visit the website.
