SkillStorm, a national technical consulting firm, today announced that Erin Lau has been named as a finalist for the 7th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Lau, Director of Talent Acquisition, was named a finalist in the Employee of the Year category. The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honor women executives, entrepreneurs and the companies they run – worldwide. The Stevie Awards have been hailed as the world’s premier business awards.
With more than 10 years in the Technical Professional Services, Recruiting and Training and Development industries, Lau is responsible for all internal hiring and training companywide. Lau also oversees the company’s applicant tracking system and other special projects that encompass corporate development for the SkillStorm offices nationwide. Lau is based out of the SkillStorm San Diego office.
In the four years she has been with SkillStorm, Erin Lau has become an integral part of the company. She first joined the company as an Account Manager and handled business to business sales and recruiting, but her responsibilities within SkillStorm quickly grew. Ranked consistently as one of the Top 5 SkillStorm Account Managers, Lau was tasked with the internal hiring and training for all SkillStorm locations nationwide in December 2007. Lau is responsible for running SkillStorm University, the company’s training and development center, which focuses on developing and mentoring employees. Located at the company’s headquarters in San Diego, SkillStorm University provides instructor-led, computer-based and phone-based training as well as Mentor/Protégé programs under the supervision of Lau.
Lau was instrumental in implementing the SkillStorm Program for Extreme Educational Development (SPEED) – a six-week sales training program targeted towards recent college graduates. The company covers all expenses for trainees including travel costs to the training site in San Diego, California, lodging, food, a weekly salary and performance bonuses. SPEED trainees undergo extensive sales and recruiting training performed by top professionals in the industry and receive hands-on training in a sales environment. Trainees that successfully graduate from SPEED are offered a full-time position as a SkillStorm Technical Recruiter.
“Erin always goes above and beyond our expectations, but over the past several months her extraordinary efforts with SPEED, along with other new hiring and training programs, have proved to be vital to the future success of our company. Her impact on the growth of SkillStorm has been substantial and makes her an invaluable member of our team,” said Vince Virga, SkillStorm CEO.
Stevie Award winners will be announced during a gala event at the Marriott Marquis hotel in New York on Friday, November 12. The presentations will be broadcast live on radio in the U.S.A. by the Business TalkRadio Network. More than 1,200 entries were submitted this year for consideration in 54 categories. A board of distinguished judges and advisors, featuring many of leading figures in American business, agreed that Lau’s nomination was worthy of national recognition.
