GE Healthcare has successfully linked its electronic medical records (EMR) solution with several non-GE inpatient systems, providing a single view of the patient record that will go beyond the requirements of meaningful use. The interoperability solution is set to debut at beta sites Capital Region Healthcare (N.H,) and Decatur Memorial Hospital (Ill.) in early 2011 with general availability expected later that year.
This capability takes a standard, viewable continuity of care document, extracts select patient data and delivers just the interaction problems, allergies, and medication information into the EMR as discrete data. This subset of the data once reviewed and approved by the clinician, is then accepted as data native to the EMR with the ability to check for drug interactions within Centricity EMR. Going further than standard interoperability, this solution demonstrates GE’s commitment to the level of open connectivity needed to support today’s heterogeneous customer environments.
“Effective connectivity has been one of the cornerstones of the Centricity suite of products. Having these two customers leverage the standards-based approach that delivers seamless workflow for all of the players in a healthcare organization is one of the most exciting initiatives we’ve seen during our 40 years of serving our customers at GE,” said Jim Corrigan, Vice President and General Manager of GE Healthcare IT. “We’re delivering the right information at the right time that our customers can depend on and that’s the level of industrialization that healthcare is looking for. We’re prepared to work alongside third party solutions, as well as our own, and look forward to continued efforts at these beta sites to ensure our success.”
