Two DocuSign customers are scheduled to present case studies focusing on successful implementations of electronic signature technology in the healthcare and insurance industries. Kate Masin, director of operations at Alliance Staffing Solutions, will present how DocuSign streamlined operations and reduced costs while doubling throughput for this healthcare staffing firm. Peter Cameron, assistant vice president of Amica Mutual Insurance Company, will share with attendees how DocuSign increased productivity and efficiencies.
Today’s announcement also marks the tenth anniversary of the Electronic Signatures in Global National Commerce (ESIGN) Act, which became effective October 1, 2000. The ESIGN Act, signed by President Bill Clinton on June 30, 2000, is heralded with transforming interstate and global commerce by ensuring the validity and legal effect of contracts entered into electronically. This legislation spurred the growth of e-commerce and consumer confidence in the United States and abroad, fueling innovation and the adoption of electronic signature technology across the globe. For example, the United States Census Bureau reported retail e-commerce sales of $25.8 billion in 2000—the year the Act went into effect. (1) Today, United States e-commerce and online retail sales are projected to reach $173 billion. (2)
DocuSign’s ESRA Conference sponsorship also follows the largest electronic signature event in history, ESIGN Summit 2010. Held in San Francisco and hosted by DocuSign on June 30, 2010, ESIGN Summit 2010 commemorated the ten year anniversary of President Bill Clinton signing the ESIGN Act on June 30, 2000.
The Summit opened with an address from President Clinton discussing the top challenges in the world and how information technology is transforming lives. The event brought together technology visionaries and business executives to discuss the evolution of the enterprise through social, collaborative and cloud-based applications driving today’s dynamic business environment and the impact on global commerce. Attendees were provided a test drive of the new DocuSign cloud-based e-signature applications, including new collaboration tools and mobile signing technologies, that enable companies to shorten the sales cycle, and operate greener and more efficiently.
During this time, DocuSign also lead a coalition in the United States Senate and the House of Representatives to pass resolutions to designate June 30 as National ESIGN Day to acknowledge the significance of e-signature technology in the growth of interstate and foreign commerce.
“Electronic signatures have created boundless opportunities to transact business more efficiently. As the market leader, DocuSign has spearheaded the adoption of electronic signature technology, including leading the education initiative that helped move the Federal Housing Administration to recognize e-signed third-party documents earlier this year,” said Ken Moyle, chief legal officer at DocuSign. “We are pleased to support ESRA and will continue to celebrate the advancements that have been made in the past 10 years, and more importantly, encourage even more rapid adoption of electronic signatures in order to eliminate the time, expense and environmental impact of printing and signing paper documents.”
DocuSign is also collecting 1 million electronic signatures to show how paperless processes can positively impact the environment, while at the same time accelerate business. To date, DocuSign users have reduced paper waste by 837 tons or nearly 14,230 trees. Anyone can sign electronically by visiting the DocuSign website.
