The Privacy Card, LLC, an emerging leader in Consumer Privacy and Identity Theft Protection, announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued United States Patent Number 7,689,007, entitled “Methods and Systems for Protection of Identity”, to the Company.

The Privacy Card is an innovative solution to the increase in personal data theft, aiming to restore consumer confidence in a market fraught with widespread consumer fraud. According to the Identity Theft Resource Center’s annual Breach Report, more than 222 million potentially compromised records were reported in 2009 alone. For Privacy Card founder and first-named inventor, Joe Bous, startling statistics like this were a mandate for an effective consumer fraud protection solution.

“Until now, industry solutions have been reactive, that is, focused on damage control after fraud occurs,” says Bous. “The Privacy Card, instead, is a proactive solution, acting as a preemptive measure against potential fraud, and ensuring that consumers don’t encounter identify theft in the first place.”

The Privacy Card solution is based on the premise that what thieves don not have, they cannot steal. Privacy Card’s newly-patented invention would protect a person or entity’s confidentiality by, for example, issuing a pseudo-identity comprising a new billing address, phone number, or email address. Privacy Card “identities” may be discarded and updated, at times. In an example solution, the Privacy Card corporate entity would be the only party privy to both a consumer’s real identity and the pseudo-identity, preventing all forms of identity theft and phishing by keeping consumers real identities secure.

The Privacy Card hopes to restore consumer confidence in online or in-person commerce by eliminating the risk of identity theft as well as the undisclosed sharing of personal information, which often times leads to Spam and uninvited marketing.

The Privacy Card (netstartups.com) anticipates multiple licensing opportunities with credit card issuers in addition to other players in the consumer privacy marketplace. The company has had a great deal of interest shown in its innovative, patented solution as conveyed through discussions with multiple credit card issuers, Kemesa, LLCs, a privacy advocacy group, as well as others. The company is also pursuing partnerships and, potentially, exclusive licensing of its patent with major credit card companies. Privacy Card is also actively pursuing other patents and envisions having the same success it had with its first patent.
