In recognition of the rapid increase in the volumes of data created, stored and transferred by today’s enterprises and the need to protect that data at all costs, ADVA Optical Networking today announced the introduction of a security suite that enhances its flagship FSP 3000 platform.

ADVA Optical Networking’s security suite comprises three elements, including wire-speed low-latency encryption, in-service fiber plant monitoring and a security-hardened management software architecture.

The introduction of encryption into the ADVA Optical Networking solution (advaoptical.com) acknowledges the development of more sophisticated fiber-tapping and intrusion technologies, as well as the need to keep data flowing quickly across the network. The integrated FSP 3000 encryption solution offers physical layer encryption, which operates at wire speed and keeps latency at its lowest levels. ADVA Optical Networking’s implementation utilizes Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption technology and uses the Diffie-Hellman algorithm for automatic key exchange, both of which provide the highest levels of security.

Adding to the security-enhancing features of the FSP 3000 platform are the integrated optical line monitoring capabilities. Optical line monitoring keeps a constant watch on the power readings from the optical link and delivers real-time monitoring and analysis of the fiber plant. These capabilities help detect fiber breaks or bends and identify security issues such as illegal fiber taps that jeopardize the integrity of mission-critical data.

The security-hardened software architecture strengthens the FSP 3000 management environment. Key technologies protect the network operator against malicious intrusion attempts that target the command-and-control function of the network element.

“Information increasingly defines the core of every business; to compromise data is to lose the trust of your customers,” stated Christoph Glingener, ADVA Optical Networking’s chief technology officer. “The new security features of our FSP 3000 platform provide private enterprises a solution to secure the transport of data between data centers, optimizing security and lowering costs. The solution also delivers key functionality that enables managed service providers to deliver premium service portfolios.”

“With enterprises increasingly turning to cloud-based and virtualized services, the security of data has become paramount,” said Michael Kennedy, co-founder and managing partner at Network Strategy Partners, LLC. “In order to accelerate uptake of their latest cloud services, carriers and service providers must offer secure transport network options to their customers, who need to feel confident their data will be protected.”
