This comprehensive two-day conference and exhibition, to be held on October 18 and 19, follows on from the successful "Doing Solar Business in the UK" event held in Munich on June 8, where members of the UK solar industry and the international solar industry came together to discuss this burgeoning market.
The conference theme, "Enabling the UK solar market for 2011," will focus on challenges of supply, cost and the rapid growth in demand for solar in the UK. The consensus in Munich was that the UK market could reach 250MW installed in 2011 if managed correctly. Solar Power UK 2010 will be the first step in ensuring that all the major players in the UK market can come together as one industry to make sure that the 250MW target is achievable.
Conference speakers include Alan Whitehead MP, leader of the PRASEG initiative, Rob Jarman, director at the National Trust, Ray Noble of the Renewable Energy Association, Nigel Fox from the National Grid and Ben Hill at Trina Solar. More than 20 speakers, from all areas of the UK solar market, have also been confirmed.
The conference will focus on real projects that will generate more than 150MW of solar power generation in 2011. Crucial sessions will focus on understanding the complicated legal framework surrounding installations and the financing involved, as well as rounding up the current financial methodologies being pursued or enacted in the UK. The program will also directly educate surveyors, planners, local governments and public-private partnerships on the opportunities presented by PV adoption.
David Owen, Chief Executive Officer of Solar Media Ltd, organiser of the event said, “It is time for the solar industry in the UK to stand up and be taken seriously and the Solar Power UK conference is the perfect platform for this.”
Ray Noble, at the Renewable Energy Association, who is also PV advisor to the UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) said, “Now is the time for the solar industry in the UK to mature. The size of the solar industry in the UK has quadrupled since April 2010. We have seen a significant increase in the amount of jobs created by the solar industry, including a two-fold increase in manufacturing and a 500% increase in the installation segment.”
The conference will be held at the prestigious Savoy Place, home of the Institution of Engineering Technology, the unique conferencing venue set beside the Thames in London’s city centre, just minutes from the Strand.
The announcement of the conference was met with great enthusiasm from members of the industry, including sponsorship from SolarWorld, British Gas, Trina Solar, IBC Solar, Mitsubishi Electric and Sharp, among others.
Following the conference will be an executive Gala Networking Dinner, taking place subsequent to the first day of the conference. The event will be held on the Silver Sturgeon, moored at Savoy Pier, on the River Thames.
